Sorry, I'm not a solo so I'll say my bit and leave...

Are you a solo traveller or just thinking about setting off on the adventure of a lifetime on your own? Do you want to ask some questions of those who have gone before, or perhaps to offer some tips and advice. Are you looking for someone to share a leg of your journey with? Or do you just want to touch base with like-minded people. Solos ... this forum is for you. Enjoy.

The above is what this forum is for, yes I have transgressed and I apologise. I feel like some sort of "Rafianesque" character coming in here and it's become obvious that the Solo Forum is running on some other plane to which I as a non Solo are not privy. I thought I could help because the problems facing solo's while they are Grey Nomading are not in reality that much different to the problems faced by partenered Grey Nomads.
I dunno, maybe the Solos if they are seeking covert romantic interludes with other solos using the "I want another solo GN to share expenses on my trip" rationale then perhaps they should set up their own forum for exactly that. If the Solos want this as their own private "chat room" without interference from those of us who are partnered then just say the word and I'll vacate the premises immediatley. I'd kind of be miffed if I found that my advice as a partnered GN was of any use to a solo GN, what would I know I have a partner of 36 years? Very rare for a Vietnam Veteran with an obvious distates for all that is unitentionally farcical...
C'mon People get real, just because you don't have a partner, don't want a partner, are looking for a partner or whatever, the problems we face as Grey Nomads are shared pretty much across the board, this sort of divisivness does nothing to prosper the Esprit de Corps of the forum as a whole, and the forum as a whole should be our collective aim.
Ok I'm outta here....

Basil

Let's put this to bed. I do not believe anything should change, it was just a bit of biff, and tackle happened in the solo's thread - so what.

I believe the solo's thread is for solo's, not and uprising, or outpost of renegades. As you rightly say "the problems we face as Grey Nomads are shared pretty much across the board,"

Is it a secret dating service - Why would anyone care other than a solo, but as you have said "I have a partner of 36 years" - I am not sure what gift to give her, a dollop more of patience, or a medal for bravery - to make it to the end as a couple deserves its own reward for both, not all of us make it.

I can only repeat a sentence said to me, by a lady, "Even grocery shopping is better with two"

TwoBob, yes lets put this to bed... Look my worry is that some of the posts in the Solo's forum are not on track for the intention of the forum, some solos only want to talk to other solos and from what I see some take exception to other than Solo's entering the Solo's area. I see that as the thin end of the wedge, from my experience on other forums once this sort of thing takes hold it degenerates into a "them & us" scenario which if allowed to prosper then ruins the whole forum for everybody. Ok this is not my forum, and I may be speaking right out of turn here but my object here is to promote harmony and keep the forum functioning with robust and healthy debate all round. If some find smut, racism, robust discussion, humour and debate offensive then they should probably set up their own forum. We are in the main all (very) mature adults in this forum, lets not allow cliques to form.
I agree your point is exactly correct, lets keep discussion relevant to the intended (and posted) use of the forum.
As to the grocery shopping, well I conceed that but believe me it's the shoe shopping, clothes shopping and cosmetics shopping that drives me to distraction.

Basil, wise as always.

No wedge involved (my opinion), we (royal) are too happy to find a friend, that is actively REMAINING in life, not looking for the comfortable chair and the TV, to sit it out.

Just a judgment was made, on the solo's forum, which turned out to be nothing like the facts, and wamo, next a "bloody" good biff - just like a good party - I grab at a another beer, to see how it ended.

I also agree, turn off, away, or simple move on, if adult talk is offensive - god we have got this far, seen so much, heard everything, nothing that can be said here, would be new. I, as most (my opinion), believe there is a line not to cross, but that is true for our social life as well.

Bottom line, the main forum has all that is needed, and this solo's forum, provides an area for those that "feel" they do not fit, or need an entry point. A bit of comradely.

Mate, I aways hated clothes/shoe/handbag/etc shopping - know what you NEED, and go get it - next time you HAVE to shop, give me a call, I will find the nearest pub, call you, and you can explain "there is a friend in need, back soon"

So you SOLO'S, help those that are in the same boat, provide support and encouragement, and make the whole site better, get active. For those that are not solo, do not make judgments, its hard enough.
