For us ...no contest...It is Kangaroo Island  !!

We even spent a few hours deciding how we could retire there after a few years of travelling....but the jury is still out on that one ATM

The one other place that grabbed our senses is a little spot called Toogoom on the Fraser coast. Just a lovely quiet little place ...no hassles...walk nearly everywhere...and the Quaint little caravan park

No doubt there will be other places...as we have really only paid lip service to this huge island so far.

By the time I have worn out my trusty GQ Patrol touring Oz...there will probably be more to add to this list.

I would believe that too....but got some catchin up to do..as mine is "only just run in" at 204000 KM...so had better git me finger out n git going hey.smile

Gregnshas I can appreciate your comments on Patonga I lived on the central coast of N.S.W. for a few years only a short distance from Patonga used to fish in the Hawkesbury river. Right now we are enduring the cold of an oncoming Tassie winter, makes me think of what we had up there, but then I remember why we came here, and i think of Tassie summers. Ah well we can't have everything, but your right this time of the year N.S.W. central coast would take some beating.

Thanks Friar, but you have just pricked Shas's attention, it is her great dream is to go to Tassie, As for me I'm yet to be convinced it's not too cold.. as we are just starting out Tassie is certainly on the the list for next year. Keep posting on your experience in Tassie as we will be interested to hear of your experience.

I live on the central coast of N.S.W.
Patonga is a just great, lake and beach, pretty good spot to camp me boys had a camp there quiet a few years ago now. not bad spot to fish as well.

Patonga, is a great place to chill out, take a ferry ride, do a bit fishing or just relax in the serene surroundings.
We have only just arrived home from a three tour down the West Coast, Did not get down to the South West because of the adverse weather conditions at the time.
Loved the city of Perth, and lot of places down the coast. We are off to the West again next September.
This time we will attend the CMCA rally in Albany and tour the South West .
Off again next Friday to my all time favourite, Manning Point NSW.

The Lower Glenelg National Park in Vic. is really nice spot to camp especially if you want to fish or kyak. The Princes Margaret Rose Caves camp ground is really nice. Rod.

We're back at Patonga this time to do part of the Great North Walk, view from the look out over Patonga, Perl Beach and out to Palm beach was stunning, oh and just some friend joining us at happy hour.

We've just returned from Tamala Station,

this place is on the way to Useless Loop, which is off the North West Coastal  Hwy, on the road to Shark Bay ( Denham )

the road into the Station is good and sealed for the first 40 km but "LOOK OUT" for the corrugations for the rest of the trip,

this would be the worst road we have ever taken our caravan over and would never recommend anyone else doing the same.

once there the scenery was fantastic  and to be able to camp right in front of the ocean was great for fishing.

Driving across the Great central Road from The Olgas to Laverton WA & totally opposite Tilpa where we wandered this year. Cape York twice & could go back for a 3rd visit.

Did you manage to drive out to Steep Point while you were at Tamala?

No, we didn't go any further than the camp site,

I mentioned the road corrugations to the woman at the Station office on our arrival,

She gave a laugh and said , they are nothing, wait till you go further on, then you will have something to complain about !!

By this stage I had lost a very expensive new rear vision mirror off the patrol,and the internal mirror had departed from the wind screen and landed in by lap,

when I opened the caravan I found shattered glass on the floor form one ceiling light and the door had almost lost all the screws out of the lock.

What really ticked me off, was that when we got to the Station, there was a road grader sitting behind a shed going rusty, hadn't been used for ages going by the bush growing  under it.

KJ, can see why you didn't want to go further.
We had the van at Hamelin Telegraph Station caravan park and did a (long) day trip out to Steep Point. We were lucky that road wasn't too bad until we got to the dune section near the closed Useless Loop road. Once we churned through those, the rest was pretty good too. Unless you are into balloon fishing off high cliffs, not worth damaging a vehicle. Some good cliff scenery - and "claiming" the western most point. I wouldn't do it again.

Went to the Botanical Gardens at Coffs the other day, Really enjoyed it immensely.. Well worth the time, Am heading back with a Blanket today to just sit never really had time to do the other day.. real credit to the workers and volunteers that build and continue to help ...
