RE: restricted road maps
(Preview)
Hello all ... I obviously posted this in the wrong section, so I will try again As a relatively new "vanner" and a first timer on this forum, I was wondering if anyone might be able to direct me to where I can find a road map which lists roads unsuitable for caravans? On 2 recent trips we came across 2 roads wh...

Fire Extinguishers
(Preview)
I'm not travelling at the moment. But when I did, I had one in the car and one in the caravan. I was sitting outside on a balmy evening, 3 nights ago, when I hear my neighbours come home. Then I hear "fire"! Then I hear "The car is on fire". So I ran. Grabbed a fire extinguisher and torch (was dark). The neighb...

Gas versus Diesel heaters.
(Preview)
Hi there folks, I note that there have been some discussions recently on the this forum and others, with regard to the merits of installing one of the above in your van. I came across this during a search to find the right system for ours. This guy installs both at a price that I found very competetive. No d...

I have bought a new 1.5m gas hose with bayonet fitting, only $24 and the under van fitting. I have spoken to a gas fitter, as this job needs to be done by one, and he says th...

Storage in a canopy on the back of a ute.
(Preview)
Gee I pondered on this for a few minutes, is this technical or general, no doubt I will be in trouble again, but I think its general. I am fitting a trades-mans canopy to our tray top ute, and trying to figure out the best way to organise storage. While I have considered different layouts, I keep coming ba...

The new engine in the Colorado is Fiat base. with Power/torque 147kW/500Nm it seems to have the best torque of any of the utes. Has anyone got one, and how is it travelling as a tug.

We are finally doing it, retired, 20ft caravan, a bit excited and a bit wary, at least I am. Husband seems quietly confident. Vietnam Long Tan Day

Today is the 50th anniversary of the battle of Long Tan. Sadly the Vietnamese Govt has at the last moment cancelled the homage for veterans families and friends from paying their respects. Where to write this post so it gets the most attention!?
(Preview)
G'day! On a number of occasions, I have mentioned that, in 1960, at 17 years old, I started travelling our beautiful island. It was all because I was being paid, as a truckie, and many years later as a coach captain. The Birdsville, Tanami, Strezleckie and Warburton tracks were just that, tracks. The G...

The Great Central Road is a caravan breaker.

G'day! Unless your van is built to travel offroad, and you are a VERY experienced traveller, do yourself a favour, don't go that way. The van is 20 feet long. There's lots of room to take too much stuff. Having started travelling Oz in 1960, I strongly recommend that you park the van in your driveway, the...

Truck Watching At Night

We were wondering if other travellers enjoyed watching trucks at night like we do. Some of the lights that they have fitted these days make some of them look like mobile Christmas trees. If we're within sight of a busy main highway we love sitting relaxing watching them go by & commenting on...
