Bogong Moths

The annual migration of Bogong Moths has started early this year. I have lived in Cooma NSW for over 60 years, but have never seen Bogongs like this year.

The rear of my flat faces North, the front South. There is a dark brown aluminium framed sliding glass door at the rear, and the frame is absolutely covered in moths. The laundry door also faces North, but there are very few moths there, the same with the front door. Every time I open the sliding door, a shower of moths falls down, and a lot of them want to fly inside the flat. I lost count after 23 moths, but there would be at least 4 or 5 times that number each time I open the door. A few moths get inside, but I do my best to usher them back outside and hopefully get them back on their way to the mountains. Each time I repeat the door opening it is the same any time of the day - a huge shower of moths, which then head away somewhere.

I have asked a few locals if they have similar problems, but they say that they have a couple of moths, but nothing like what I describe. I guess it is a good thing that they are there - on the move, but they are a real nuisance - I cannot go out the back without getting bombarded, and letting at least 30 moths into my flat.

Does anyone else have this problem?   I am thinking of naming my flat BOGONG MOTEL.

They are actually an endangered species. To control them, put a light on in your yard and keep your curtains closed. Theyll chase the light.
