I would have thought any rubber damping would usually last the lifetime of the caravan.  It could be one of a a number of different issues. Two possibilities which I can think of would be either:
1) a problem with the compressor belt such as being loose/worn/etc
2) a problem with the fan such a as damaged blade/bearing

Maybe a caravan repairer or air-conditioning repairer might be able to help?? If the repairer isn't familiar with caravans it might be worth advising them about not just walking around on the caravan roof and potentially causing damage (eg I've used a rigid wooden board to spread the load, and kept most of my weight near the edge).

Another issue with the fan can be mud wasps. we turned ours on one day and i thought the thing was going to rip itself off the roof but it turned out that a rather large mud wasp nest had been built on top of the fan when parked up at home. cleaned it off and all good.
