Satellite Phones v Epirb

The time is approaching for me to arrive in B/Hill and then onto Cameron Corner, and I am contemplating suitable communications for the trip. I will appreciate any advice and or comments, learned from your lived experience, as to which unit I should take; Epirb or Satellite Phone. As mentioned in an earlier post I will be using a Hired PRADO, which I don't expect will have any recovery gear, and most likely only 1 spare wheel, and no compressor.

Apart from suggesting I abort the trip, what assistance might you offer to assist.

Now you're not planning to try the Dog Fence - something you clearly had no idea about - there is no need for you to abort your trip providing you remain within the limits of your skill and knowledge.

Have EPIRB, Starlink Mini an Inmarsat IsatPhone (000 only) suggest you hire a Sat phone and buy a personal EPIRB.

A satelite 'phone and an Epirb (PLB) perform quite different functions.

The Epirb (PLB) is the cheapest, most effective device to save your life in the event of life threatening medical emergencies or accident. It costs about $300 and has a life of about 7 years with no further expense during that time. They can be hired.
They are totally portable (about the size of a packet of cigarettes), so good for going for a walk away from the vehicle. Rescue service is guaranteed by the Government and is free of charge for genuine emergencies. They are one way communication. You switch it on, that is all, and rescue WILL come to you..

Satelite phones are 2 way voice communication, but in an emergency, you need to be still able to operate it and know an appropriate number to call. There are significant ongoing costs after purchase, maybe more if used depending on which devise you choose.
Starlink is the fashion, but are not really portable, so can't go for a walk with you.
