Venting a battery enclosure

Hi everyone,

I guess this follows Valiant's post above regarding installing a battery in a caravan. What is the preferred method of venting a battery enclosure?

In the case of my son's Jayco Eagle camper, the battery box is vented into the main thoroughfare (inside the van). A lithium LifeP04 lives in there - this, I assume was either installed by the manufacturer or the dealer.

In our Discovery, the "Hot Box" is under my bed - it holds most of the essentials - the HWS, the pump, the AGM  battery (I assume it was installed by the local dealer as we bought the van second hand when it was 5 years old) & the air-conditioning compressor. From what I have seen, Jayco vans with a double bed have similar setups. To make things interesting there is no lid on the battery box so any battery fumes just float around in this cavity & out via any small air leak. As I now have a lithium battery in place, I believe this makes the situation more serious.

How should it be vented? Through the wall? Through the floor? Assisted by a small fan wth a temperature switch. Your thoughts & wisdom would be valued.

Warren

PS - if TimTim reads this, I have sent a PM.

Hi Warren,

No PM received but happy to reply so try sending it again.

If you are looking to provide ventilation as per AS/NZ 3001.2:2022, which is not referenced in legislation then you will have a tough time in doing so as the Standard does not provide any method.  So much for calling it a Standard.

It is late now but will explain tomorrow if need be or reply to your message early evening if it comes through.

Tim
