Breaksafe series 4000

Hi guys, after a bit of help from Jayco owners. I purchased a used 2003 Jayco Heritage 21'6" van recently, the batteries were stuffed so changing them over. There is a Breaksafe series 4000 brakeaway system fitted, battery good in this. What I am after is where does the black wire go from the front of the unit?? I always take pics of things like this when I do things so I don't get them mixed up. As far as I could see the wire disappeared into the battery box. ( not the terminal) I counted the number of wires on each terminal but it turns out this wire was not in the counting , no idea where it went. I am unable to put a pic on this post but there are 2 terminals on the front, a red one and a black, there is no red wire only a black one. Any one have the same unit?, no I don't want to change it, no I don't want an auto sparky just a bit of help from someone with the same unit, Cheers

Under the red and black terminals it days charge. Clearly there is no wire connected to the ted terminal. Id suggest you connect a 12 volt wire from your battery +ve and see what lights up.

We used to have a 2005 Heritage and there were no wires going to those fittings on the front of the unit at all. All wires went into the side of the Breaksafe unit. I suspect someone has added an extra earth wire for some reason.

FYI,as standard the Breaksafe battery in those caravans was hooked up to only charge when the caravan is hooked up to a vehicle (and only while the engine is running). It will not charge if you're hooked up to mains 240v power, even though the deep cycle
'house' battery will. With both Jayco caravans we have had, I made some modifications so that the Breaksafe battery is charged when the caravan is hooked up to 240v, as well as being charged from the car while being towed.

  1. Thanks for the reply Rod, I agree when we had our 2005 25ft Heritage I was pretty sure there were no wires connected. I just thought I had missed it, when I finished the battery shift today everything worked fine with out the wire connected to any contact. Shows charging light and battery is in good condition when test button pressed.                                 Cheers
