My wife for the last two days has been making damper including just now, as we are out of bread, in our woodfired stove and oven in the kitchen. Perfect food for cold days.
The best thing I ever did was to recover this Rayon One Fifty, woodstove, from an old house I demolished, and fully restored the stove myself( that is one of my hobbies, restoring old stoves and heaters).
Coming back to the New England 25 years and finding a nice home, meant we needed a woodstove again, but at $7,000 AVG meant it had to be an old stove restored. It roasts, bakes, and cooks the best tasting food, we have ever had, and damper comes out of it nice and fluffy.
We look forward to winter mainly for the food this oven cooks and for the heat it gives out, luckily for me, I have a few acres of dead trees to cut down, to keep us in wood for a long time.
I feel hungry now! We had a slow combustion wood stove when I was a kid, warmed the kitchen & mums cooking smells filled the room, brings back great memories of simpler times, our dog took up permanent possession right in front of the stove in winter.
