We are still out there using our different kind of caravan. some of you may have seen us in some free/low cost camp site or road side rest stop overnighting on the way to our generally free water view campsites. Our 28 foot van is a bit internal space compromised whilst still providing stand up headroom at the kitchen, an enclosed shower toilet and dining for 6 along with two queen sized beds. It is probably equivilent to an 18 footer but has its outdoor entertaining area with bbq both integrated and elevated. We travel with over a 1000w of solar panels, a large lithium battery bank and two 2400w inverters allowing us to free camp whilst using induction cooking, compressor fridge and freezer, 240v ho****er and a variety of other 12 and 240v appliances including a ceramic heater and portable airconditioner both of which are rarely needed given our chosen campsites are generally right on the water. Our unusual van has been developed over time to now allow us to camp out for months at a time without needing to visit the shops or petrol station. we can even create our own fresh water is camping in salt water environments Via a desalinator. For the fishing enthusiast we can usually cast a line directly from our outdoor entertaining area but also carry a dingy on our van. We often move between campsites without needing to use any petrol and whilst often moving campsites daily we have just returned from nearly 4 weeks camping still with half our fuel supply intact. We move by wind and electric motor most times reserving our powerful engine for occasional quick dashes between spots or to access challenging new campsites. Our strange caravan is an Imexus 28 trailerable yacht! We might see you out there sometime whilst in transit but usually our campsites are out of your reach!
Yes we often joke when pulling into low lying rest stops and campgrounds on our way or way back from on water camping that we heard it floods around here!
Did you sell the truck motorhome now, or just get a different pulling vehicle, as an extra.
We have both and have decided if just spending most of the time out on the water then the VW Touareg is a more comfortable drive and more economical. We will still use the Isuzu NLS AWD and slide on camper if planning to do significant boat stored somewhere side trips as well.
