RE: Going on "I digress" most of the time I get is

I have not always agreed with you Alan but there is some merit in your post. The GN forum has become a bland imitation of what it used to be. Sure there were times when things got a little "hot" but there was diversity of views expressed which created interesting reading.

The digress forum is a point in question. It appears to be largely devoted now to beautiful homilies on how to make a perfect world.  I mean no disrespect to the poster but surely enough is enough? The fact that so many subjects are now on the banned list does not leave a lot of room for discussion, hence we end up with stuff that requires no discussion at all.

It is interesting to note how many folks who used to be active, are no longer? Wonder why?.

Agree, the jokes section was taken over some time back now moved on to include the I digress thread.

wouldnt be quite so bad if it didnt repeat about every 2 or 3 weeks

It's what happens when you strive to offend nobody, woke is the term I believe, people seem to think it's their right never to be offended.

You cannot have a free and forthright exchange of ideas without offending nearly everybody, it's called freedom of speech.

Who here uses the "recently active topics" as the opening page on GN?

thegreynomads.activeboard.com/p/recent/

It was very handy at one point as you could see what topics were being commented on, all in one area. But since the forum has turned into a Joke Fest, that page is now useless as it's filled almost daily with Jokes and I Digress lovey dovey stuff that makes no sense.
I did suggest that the Joke section be removed from the recent topics but apparently that cannot be done. So back to I Digress, maybe we could have another sub forum called HairyFairy! At least that would stop polluting I Digress.

If you mean that the content is invisible in some browsers, it's because the poster still hasn't learned to avoid spammy Faecebook URLs with all the tracking garbage. I tried to explain it to him, but he just doesn't get it. As for the actual content, I have no comment.

Here is an example of some of the rubbish:

 You referring to me Dorian?

Yes, aussie_paul, I'm referring to your posts. My Firefox browser won't render most of your images, and I recall a previous thread where I extracted the problematic URL from your post and tried to explain what was happening. You need to save the FB image to your drive and then attach the downloaded file to your post. Then everyone will see it.

BTW, I don't have a problem with your "preachy" stuff.

A lot of sites (eg Amazon, Aliexpress) generate very long URLs, but they are handled correctly by every browser. Something is different about FaeceBook, but I don't know what it is.

Sorry Dorian, my memory is going down at a reasonably fast rate these days. I guess I find it easier to cut/copy and past. Now that you mention it I do recall you helping me.

Aussie Paul. smile

I enjoy your posts Aussie Paul. Obviously you put a bit of time into finding them. Some bring back long forgotten memories and some just remind me that I should be a bit more tolerant of others. Keep them coming my friend.

Nowhere in my post did I suggest that Aussie Paul's posts be banned. Surely it is not too much to ask that they be confined to the section they were originally in? Those who enjoy reading them can still do so.

Robust discussion is the heart and soul of any forum.....that sometimes involves differing opinions from posters who are fully qualified to express their opinion on a particular topic and on occasions can become "heated" and other posters take "offence".

The dilemma for admin.....ban the controversial poster and finish up with a boring one sided and non offensive discussion and everybody goes to sleep.

Admin this is a general comment only and not directed at any particular forum and just my opinion.

Thank you to those who enjoy my posts.

To me the "I digress" section can have posts in it other than religion, politics, and camping caravaning etc.

Am I correct in thinking this?

Aussie Paul. smile

I would prefer this stuff was in the jokes section. It is rarely grey nomad travel related.
Cheers,
