Electric vehicles

I came across this article about EVs with replaceable batteries where the vehicles are purchased without a battery and then a replaceable battery is leased. Instead of recharging the battery, it is swapped for a fully charged battery.

Interesting concept Dennis, It appears that what's old is new again. I stumbled across this about a year ago.

A few years ago, probably 20 or so, a company called Better Place I think it was from Israel, used to buy Renault cars with out an engine, they had their own electric motors and batteries fitted, the batteries were set up for quick change and they had service centres set up at various places all over Europe that were automated to change batteries in about the time it took to fill a tank with fuel. They had a displey at a trade show in Sydney and had a few Commodores fitted with these systems. Not long after this show the company folded. I have a brochure from that show with the details of the commodore systems.

While this video talks about cars I wonder how soon the Aluminium Ion battery will reach the consumer market in watches, computers, van batteries etc.
