"Ancient" lighting technology longevity (Google Lens can't identify this original LED globe!)

Had to replace a few LED globes recently... again & again...!

They were not purchases at the start of the LED changeover from compact fluro globes.

Many of these non original early LED purchases have been replaced multiple times.

The first LED globe we bought, still going perfectly ok. Still has the best quality of light compared to current LED globes, & dimmable which works nicely.

Philips Alien Head as it was colloquially known at the time:

When the compact fluro globe came in. We installed them in our block of Units for common lighting. They lasted typically 15 years (we have been on the Building's Committee since 1989, & I did cost analysis of energy/investment outlay on more efficient globes. My labour was free!).

Then replaced as required with newer fluro tubes. Typically 2 years life. (I get up on a ladder & replace globes... saving absent Land investor Lords running costs!) Obviously technology has been improving for the manufacturers!

No difference to an original 25 watt incandescent globe from the 1950s for our common lighting. Still going for more than half a century. I then have had to replace it with three LED globes.

Ok the LED globes use less power. But earlier LED globes last a lot longer. 15 years verses 2 to 3 years., & These are Philips or Osram, not no name brands.

Have noticed RNSH (Royal North Shore Hospital) still is using the original Philips LED downlight lights with inbuilt fan. We still are using them at home at well in some light fittings. At the time $50 each... cash!

Very long term history. I had a Great Great relative who worked for Thomas Edison, who wound the first double spiral light globe element (spiral within a spiral). He was asked to design a filament that would have a shorter life, but just long enough to cover warranty, so more light globes were sold to increase profits!

Nothing has changed.
