Top 5 Towing Myths, on YouTube  pertaining to Travel Trailers aka Caravans, sure this is an American video.

I feel a lot what he says is worth listening to and it makes sense, watch it, what do you think.

There are other myths let's park them in the garage, and discuss there 5 and how they apply to Australia.

 Interesting video Graham, and will be of some assistance to new members, or indeed, those members who simply are wanting to learn. 

However, I feel that members of the "head in the sand" brigade will be lost, as always.

Airbags are a regularly misunderstood  piece of equipment, and you can be sure that salesmen never will reveal the inadequacies to those among us who believe that an Airbag helps with weight distribution. It doesn't.

The last point, regarding inadequate tow vehicles, is particularly relevant here in Australia, where dreamers set out to tow 3500kg vans with their little 6000kg GCM twin-cabs Buzz Boxes, among other equally unsuitable vehicles. 

Could I say that there is another, more informative, "8 towing myths", in print somewhere, some of which I posted a couple of years ago. However, I do not have it at hand.

Perhaps someone else can help?

P.S Didn't find what I was looking for, but " top towing myths" produced the points below.

    Lots of good advice for those receptive to same, so the "head in the sand" brigade may like to move on?

P.P.S Dreamer's wagon at bottom, no apparent understanding of weights?

Looks to me that chassis is bent, just behind cab?

Another towing myth!

 

My brother in-law always complains about fuel usage in their 2.0 TDI Touran, & we pay every second refueling (over a Euro100 to fill the tank).

 

It's simple stuff on every level, saving fuel, & more to the point, stop driving at >160kph (>180kph where possible, in other words utterly oblivious to speed while a caravan is "still" attached), down to southern Italy (still alive to comment on fuel consumption). Wants to smoke his pipe & have a bottle of wine, otherwise would save a few dollars for fuel & get to destination somewhat more less stressed & the same day.

 

Personally I would rather cappuccino or 3 driving a "bit" slower & less stressed.

 Another towing myth is that driving in top gear means fewer revs, so therefore your car uses less fuel! Yeah, right.

Every engine has its own "sweet-spot" where it is running most efficiently, and you'll never hit that spot if you persist in using 'Drive' in an automatic car or top gear in a car with a manual transmission. 

My car's sweet-spot is around 2300rpm, and I get 5.8km/litre (17 litres/100km) at 6800kg GCM, not bad for a little V8. Cheers

Sweet spot

(although not for us in the rear of Touran, on the Italian motorways which have a thump every 10 seconds due to concrete joints & slight arching of motorway construction)

is 165kph!
