Gas shut off valve.

Brother in law, just purchased a new Jayco, very nice with all the bells and whistles - There is no gas cut off valve inside the van (fridge or stove). Is there a gas fitter on the site that can advise of the legality of this?

My Jayco, 2018 build, has the gas cut-off valves under the floor on the pipe routes to each appliance.  Is there something more required? My van was purchased second hand (in Queensland) and was passed for its gas certificate by a someone not associated with Jayco.

Very difficult to turn off gas if there is a fire in the kitchen - you'd have to get out the door (if possible), crawl under van, locate valve. It is common sense to have a shut-off in the living area - usually directly underneath the appliance.

Just as difficult as your suggestion "if there is a fire in the kitchen" are you going to stick your arm in the flames? If you can't extinguish just get outside and turn the gas off.

With a small kitchen fire flame and heat goes up - that's why gas valves are under appliance.

Wouldn't you just turn the gas off at the source gas bottle?

down on hands and knees for both of ours, behind cupboard doors (2013 Paramount). So a bolt for the bottle me thinks.

It is my understanding that the isolator near the appliance is to allow repair or replacement without affecting the rest of the installation. If there is
a problem I would be going to the source of supply, ie the bottle/s, or at home, the meter box.

Yes if passage isn't blocked by flames.

My previous Jayco pop-top Freedom had the gas shut off taps under the floor under the appliances.

My current van has all shut off taps inside the van in proximity to each appliance.

It must be up to the manufacturers' discretion.

Gas regulations are not up to Manufacturer's discretion.

They are if the reg is not specific about where the shut off must be fitted, if at all.

What does the regulation say?
