I think..

my grandparents were immigrants from war torn Europe(ww1) spoke no English with no more than what they could carry had 11 kids in a foreign country.
my father the oldest when he bought his first house an borrowed money on a three year term at 9 % he thought he had to pay it off in 3 years he set a goal and 3 years later the house was paid for. then he was ready to have kids and about 3years later he bought his first car.
my objective was to have a house before my kids started school.

so the thing is, if people do not set goals an work to a plan(no excuses) to achieve them they will never get to were they are going

Once again I agree with you, at least that is how we have lived our life.

I'm not sure that many young folk have the same opportunities today though. Sure some do, & waste it I'm sure, although I suspect that mre who are able to create their own opportunities do than don't.

For the many who are forced to work low paying & unstable jobs the opportunites like we had are out of reach. I suspect that the mindset then becomes get what I can whilst I can, encouraged by both peer pressure & easy finance.

Our son now 38, will never own his own home until we die. He works really hard for long hours on a farm, loves his job, but gets paid only a little over the minimum wage. He  is lucky that his job is relatively secure, he's had it for almost 9 years now.  He lives frugally, his 'entertainment' is going out to cut firewood on his days off  in the $25k 75 series Toyota ute he saved for years to buy. He has never expected us to fund his life & has done things hard. We are proud of him, especially his loyalty & care he extends to those around him.

A point hard to disagree with.    Where do young people get that understanding?    Absent parenting could perhaps be blamed for a lack of life skills, or maybe they are influenced by their Peer Group of young people who have no idea of how to plan a solution for a good (subjective ) future.    I regularly deal with couples where He has a couple of kids to different women and She has a couple of kids to different fathers, leaving all of them without appropriate role models or access to wise, older adults to maybe shape their thinking.    My example is only relevent to a small portion of the younger population but I do see that both rich and poor always have close to the latest Smart Phone model and slavishly follow the influencer of their choice.

That's also hard to disagree with. And I have to also agree that the environment young people are subject to now doesn't leave much to be desired in terms of motivation. I was 26yo and invited to a motivation lecture. 30 minutes later a number of things had changed- I realised I was a negative thinker, that the sky was now the limit and I felt sorry for those that never possessed a positive mind. So regardless of my past working history of RAAF, prison service etc I had no one to provide to me the guidance towards striving for achievement.

We under estimate the positive effect of role models. Boys need men. We have a few fatherless kids in our street. I have a big racing car set even with trains and rail crossings. I will only allow boys there if mums attend as well (sad isnt it?) but slowly they drop in for a pump up of their bike tyres etc. We men have a part to play in this, we can fill the gaps a bit where the dead beat dads and mums create.

What age groups are you proposing this for?    Young kids would not have any chance of understanding the most basic explanations of Schizophrenia.    Eating disorders?   Most likely to be counter productive as you might end up with a whole class of kids with an eating disorder.    The average GP can tell you they experience waves of patients presenting with a self -diagnosis of the disorder or disease that was the last night's Medical drama on the TV.    Teenagers have little care for such lessons as they get information on such things from the trusted source of their choice on the Internet.
