At a recent Shanghai auto expo, the world's largest battery maker unveiled a battery it claimed could power electric aircraft or propel electric vehicles (EVs) beyond 1,000 kilometres on a single charge.
Most EV batteries have a specific energy of under 300Wh/kg.
CATL says its new battery almost doubles that figure, with a specific energy of 500Wh/kg.

I did read (some years ago), that new and better types of batteries will appear, when there is a market for better (than old lead acid) batteries, and this seems to be happening
I also read that some vehicle manufactures, were going to spend something like $30 billion, on EV battery research
I did read recently, that there is at least one battery, (in the laboratory), which claimed 700Wh/kg, but not every laboratory battery, will be good enough to be manufactured
Time will tell how good the CATL battery is, but CATL do seem to be a reputably battery manufacturer
