 Interesting.  Nowhere did I say that "girlfriends are NOTHING and not part of "anyone's family". I merely stated that girlfriends are not  part of my family, as of right. If I go out to a pub or whatever and meet a girl who spends a couple of nights, or even weeks, with me, does she then become  part of my family. NO WAY Jose!  In my time I've had literally dozens of "girlfriends" but fewer than 10 would I consider to have ever become part of my family. Still I maintain contact with some of these girls,now married women, and their husbands. Cheers

 Are you serious? If a Prado was towing a van that was 800kg overloaded , there is not a chance in hell that the Prado wasn't overloaded too. Spare me!

And to think that you're loose on the nation's highways. Save us!

The remains of the caravan were collected and weighed, and were found to be 800kg beyond the maximum weight allowed to be towed by a Prado. And that's likely to not include weight of water in tanks, which would have "vanished". I'm astonished. Surely you're not serious? Cheers

 Semantics aside; A Police Officer would in all likelihood charge someone driving an "overloaded" vehicle or combination with; "Dangerous Driving causing ......." Negligent driving etc"...... "driving a vehicle in a manner ...." Driving a vehicle without due care", "Driving a Defective Vehicle" There are a myriad of easily provable offences - Overweight vehicle charge would necessitate irrefutable proof before a Magistrate if challenged in a Court of Law.

There is more than one way to "kill a cat, you don't have to choke it with butter". Most Police Officers charge an offender with an easily provable offence - They are not Engineers (most at least).                                                                                                                       -

Finally someone with plain common sence, you are correct when saying they would then likely be charged with all of those offenses.

The only one they can not charge them with is overloading a passenger vehicle.

They can however charge for an overloaded ute or light truck but not a passenger vehicle.

Simply because they is no regulation that covers overloading a passenger vehicle in Australia.

If the other bloke would have calmed down and not to try to bully and intimidate myself, I would have told him exactly what I have just typed.

I am still waiting for Pedders to get back to verify if the new policy will be retrospective.

Be well aware that this currently applies to Queensland registered vehicles only. So whilst in most instances you are covered whilst travelling through another State, if you either move interstate or sell the vehicle across borders, the said GCM upgrade will be considered at best non-existent or worst an illegal modification. WA for one does not recognise GCM upgrades, only GVM upgrades. The reason for that is the lack of a proper testing regime and facilities to ensure that the vehicle is still roadworthy and within the capacities of things such as drive trains and braking systems to cope with the upgrade.

Will there be any requirement to have the items used in this upgrade certified in some way.
It is hard not to envisage owners shopping around for the cheapest possible upgrade which could involve sub-standard components being used.
Personally I can't see any value in upgrading.

Greg I totally agree with all you said.
We did a GVM upgrade on our Mux with airbags fitted. The car feels rock solid , also a 2 inch lift comes with the upgrade from Pedders.

jegog, yes all upgrades must be certified, only good for the certifying state.

Once again this is turning into a I KNOW MORE THAN YOU.

I can assure you (from my previous life) there have been many incidences that motor vehicle drivers have been charged/given infringement notices for overloading their vehicle.

Please dont ask me to prove it.
1. I couldnt be bothered doing the research
2. It was a former life and I no longer have access to the system that records all these infringements

Hi Michael. Could I respectfully ask "How can this be"?  The OP attests that he has been told by a person who is " without doubt the best informed, best knowledge, most qualified person in Australia" that no such incidents have occurred. LaLa Land stuff.

Surely you don't think that your "hands on" experience with these matters trumps  this stupid claim? I do, of course, jest!

Once the OP started twisting the information in the Police Report in an effort to appear learned,I lost interest.

You and I don't often see eye to eye, but in this case you're 100% correct.

 With all towing vehicles rear axle carrying capacity is the biggest single issue. Five grand ($5000) to gain 100kg. (Now a huge 1750kg. My car has 2300kg ex-factory) Spare me. You'd have to be dreaming.

GVM upgrades generally are good for heavily loaded touring vehicles, but are next to useless on towing vehicles, and understood by few.

Recently, at a free camp, I spoke with a couple in an LC105 (good car) who insisted that their stock-standard vehicle was " 100% legal" at weight on wheels (GVM?) of 3600kg, and  that their van weighed "at least 3500kg mate". 

Assuming the generally accepted safe towball weight of 10%, their setup weighed 6750kg, but rear axle weight was waaaaay over the stupidly low 1950kg carrying capacity as drawbar had fuel cans, jerry cans of water, and a huge toolbox full of "stuff" all jammed onto it. Rear bumper was loaded with all manner of "junk".

Not deliberately overloaded perhaps, but definitely illegal despite them being confident that all was good.

After I drew pictures and showed them their compliance plates they learned that their legal limits were GVM 3180kg, ATM only 3120kg, GTM 2820kg and alleged tare of only 2720kg.

Safe towing capacity for this car is little more than 3000kg as a PIG trailer. (Caravan?).

So far overloaded that it'd likely be lock-up time if they were involved in an accident causing injury or worse. They were astounded.

But the sad thing is that they'd been advised by "eggspurts" that all was good, likely not in writing? 

THESE are the types of people I constantly try to help with their weights. Cheers.

P.S This is NOT the subject vehicle but it is very similar setup. "All legal mate". Yeah, right.

This info came from a major GVM upgrader today, here in NSW, but I'm happy to be corrected by anyone who actually KNOWS, not just someone whose neighbour's uncle's daughter's husband said different. Good luck with that!

No idea of cost, but I understand that it can't be done?
