Shell (and other) repairs in Adelaide?

Hi, I'm fairly new to these things, and I hope this is the right spot to ask this. I have a 2008 Sprinter-based 27 foot. (Loving the Luton peak bed - they should have them in houses..)

Parking under a nice shady tree gave me a not so nice BANG!... and now I have a cracked shell.

No idea how I got about getting such a thing fixed.

Also, if anyone knows a reliable mechanic in Adelaide area, I'd appreciate the tip. Discovered that hard way that dealerships are not. (Didn't even put the bottom gasket in after changing transmission fluid...)

Assuming the peak is fibreglass look up fibreglass repairs in your local directory. Should be plenty of boat or caravan repairers in who can help in Adelaide I would have thought. It's not a huge job.

This google link should get you started. Good Luck.

Welcome to the Forum Kippr,

Usually an easy fix, you may wish to do the simple repair yourself www.supercheapauto.com.au/paint-panel/paint-panel-preparation/fibreglass-repair . Just ensure you work "clean" and drill any cracks to prevent further cracking/splitting.

Take your time and watch a couple of U Tube videos such as www.bing.com/videos/search

Welcome to the forum Kippur, we trust you'll have an enjoyable time here & learn heaps as most of us have (& are still doing it).
Blimey 27' is a big van to lug around! I saw one of these come flying up the Gregory Development Road a few years ago behind a BT-50 (I was at Belyando Crossing having a chat with a couple of other vanners. The funny thing was - this bloke came back. We assumed he found out how far it was to Charters Towers (next fuel stop) & at the rate he was driving at, he would not have made it!! Belyando provides petrol & diesel - for a price. Freight is their biggest cost as the fuel has to come from Townsville.

Back to your problem, as Possum has said Dr U-tube should be able to help you do a good repair - wear a good mask & safety goggles.

Hi Kippr
Yes you must be careful driving near trees with a big van. Easy to do some damage. Even in a cambered street the van leans over past the gutter and can be damaged by electricity posts close to the gutter.

A suggestion for a person to repair the fiberglass shell. Lots of young people who surf are expert at repairing their surfboards with fiberglass. They do it regularly if they are hard core surfers. This could be an option or even go to a shop who sells the stuff and ask if they know someone who would look at the crack and give a quote. Boat places also might do that too.

I have done some of those types of repairs in the past and it is not too hard but a bit of experience helps.

Gawler Caravan Repairs were very good with some repairs to our van. You could give them a try.
