Ensure it is rubber mounted on a base which won't amplify the sound

Ensure the hose connections are soft & pliable, not hard & rigid.

Accept that names like 'Whisper king' & the like are marketing tools for an item which is inherently noisy.

We have 3 ARB air compressors & they syphon the water. I get the wife to clean the car. The pumps make a lot of noise!

I believe the pump action is the pipes reverberation against the caravan floor where the pipes go in and out. Why the pump needs to be inside beats me in the first place. Maybe the tradies can not work under the caravan.

I have done a couple of things which has lowered the noise level some.

1, I put in heavier 12 volt feed wire to the pump though a relay. If your Concept is like mine, the 12 volt feed wire is smaller then the wire from the pump, upping the feed wire size helps to give plenty of current to the pump.

2, our pump being under a draw on the floor in the kitchen allowed me to pack some noise reducing material around the area.

Priority number one in next caravan, pump to be mounted external with better water plumbing.

What make of water pump is it? We have a Seaflo and it is very quiet and is located in a low cupboard. The pump should only run when a tap is turned on otherwise you have an airlock or the pressure switch has given up the ghost. Another issue to check is make sure that if it has a filter that it is not blocked. As suggested try some rubber mounts underneath otherwise you will have to go to the expense of a new pump to quieten your wife biggrin .

As others have already asked, they need to know the manufacture/model of the water pump

I have a Shureflo 4009, and I can hear it, when it is running, so I only switch it on, when required

I have two Seaflow pumps in my Karavan - one for the smaller drinking water tank, and one for the larger general water tank. There's no filter on the general pump and it's quiet. There's a B.E.S.T; filter on the drinking tank feed and it's noisier. That pump developed a leak around the pressure sensor not long ago, and prior to that it had become quite noisy. I replaced the pump and the new one is relatively quieter, but still nowhere near as quiet as the general pump. Both pumps are rubber mounted in the rear boot, so they're external, but the noise insulation from that compartment is limited, so we do hear the pumps.

I have a spare pump we carry with us, but also use from time to time to suck water out of a creek or waterhole. It is a Surflo Whisper King, advertised as being the quietest pump on the market.

When on a riverbank being used to supply water to a donkey boiler it was so quiet that if we didn't see it move a little from the torque reaction as it was powered on we had to touch it to know it was running. Different story all together when mounted in the vehicle.

Mounting is everything when it comes to reducing noise.

I forgot to mention that my pump would not turn off on a trip to Brisbane just before Christmas. I did the usual things to check there was no airlock etc. Checked the filter to find a nice surprise of lots of pieces of plastic inside.

As it was the pressure switch was failing randomly on a 14 month old pump and as I couldnt be bothered with warranty I bought a new switch on Ebay.

This was the Seaflow that you bought a replacement pressure switch for? On Ebay? I still have the one that developed a leak where the pressure sensor connects to the main pump body, and it would be useful to repair it. I *think* the switch is still ok, but a new one might be a good idea.

Here you go Bristte, yes it was the Seaflo switch. Just check whether you have 2 or 3 screw connection.
