I see you are in Rockingham, Peter, there is an Avida dealer near you. Go and have a look at them for Motorhomes.

Also Luxury RV has a yard in there, mainly sell caravans, a 'Retreat' dealer, that's where I brought mine from.

Why do we bother?

We answer some people, provide a link etc etc and don't even get the courtesy of a reply.

Are they being rude or are we just being taken for granted??

In those cases I don't bother to answer any further questions they may have

A question may be asked by one person, but the answer may be useful to many.

Totally agree with your views Bob. The "Thanks in advance" has long since been a bone of contention with me, but I think that sometimes its a case of seeing it in print and maybe thinking it is the done thing. Monkey see, monkey do????

Failure to reply to a post that is an answer to your request is not only downright rude but also shows a lack of manners and respect. I get the impression that some people post just for the sake of posting or just to have a stir.

How many times have we seen questions posed on this forum that could be answered by a couple of clicks on Google? If you were buying a van would you not go to the dealer to have a look at it?

I can understand asking to see if a private owner has one to look at, as it removes the pressure of the salesperson over your shoulder at the dealer.

That doesnt excuse not acknowledging responses to your question.

On a similar note, a please when requesting an answer to a question would be nice to see. That particular comment is made as a general observation of forum questions. And before I am told to get over it, good manners dont go out of fashion.

Jeez.....after reading the comments, Im not surprised he didn't bother replying!......Not everyone sits home on the computer all day looking for arguments.....maybe he's out of range? At work? Had an emergency? Forgot?

All he asked was to have a look at someone's motorhome and maybe chat to someone who owns one not trying sell them, most people like showing off their set up and chatting with like minded people.......Lighten up!

My home base is about 200 Ks south of you, unfortunately I am gearing up to go over the East, so do not have much time, for showing you my configuration

My motorhome is a 2006 model, and there have been many different configurations since that time

You have been given some good advice on where to look locally, at the configurations of motorhomes

The wife and I, looked for about six months before purchasing a caravan, then many years later spent another six months looking for the motorhome, (in my Avatar)

Yes Tony, firstly I looked up his name to respond accordingly, and saw his address as Rockingham.

So I knew there was a Avida dealer there as we looked for a friend at a van, so I googled the yard and provided a link.

You can go thru any yard and go in and out of the motorhomes , looking at layouts without being hassled by salesmen.

I waited a couple of days for some to reply and then thought I'd help the guy out. 13 days later no reply, and for someone to make a post and not check would be unusual.

His last logon was an hour after I posted, so he saw it. In future he can bloody fly to the other side of Australia to pick his layout.

Regularly I communicate with other members by PM, sometimes in response to a post on the open forum, and sometimes in reply to a question I've received via PM.

Everybody is entitled to have an opinion, no matter how misguided they may be, but when it comes to weights there is no room for opinion. To avoid embarassing anyone on the open forum I prefer to communicate via PM. Sometimes I get an email address to allow me to send photos.

Your weights are either right, or they're wrong.

Perhaps this script goes some way to helping you understand why some people say "I'll send you a PM"? Cheers

Chris, congratulations on the paragraphs and punctuation.

If someone asks a question and receives a reply, whether they like it or not, it is good manners to respond.

We all don't have the same views, that's what makes a forum. It would no good if we all barracked for the same team, there would be no one to rib. smile smile

If and it is a big if, someone feels the need to absolutely exclude all others from the information about to be supplied then why does the respondent have to announce to the entire forum that he or she is doing so.

Why not just send the person a PM without the * look at me, look at me* quote to the topic.

My thoughts are that if the information cant be shared then maybe the content might be doubtful.

Ivan, I'm surprised at your stance on this issue, as several times I've openly explained my reasons for using PMs. Should the recipient of any PM so desire he is quite welcome to screenshot my script, and post it on the open forum. BUT it must be in its entirity, and not cherry-picked to suit an agenda.

Surely you would understand that the reason for posting "PM sent", or similar, is simply to alert the recipient to look for a PM? Like many, I do not necessarily log-in to the forum to simply view posts, so unless the recipient has ticked the "send me email to alert me to replies" (or whatever) box he otherwise would be unaware that he has "mail".

"Look at me, Look at me" is the least of my concerns, although it always is nice to have my help acknowledged by the PM recipient when I have provided helpful advice. Several times I have "saved" people from having a salesman Ram an entirely unsuitable vehicle down their throats.

It is not my intention to Rob your post of any validity, but I trust that I now have addressed any concerns you may have had? Could I take this opportunity to wish you, along with the Drivers, a very Merry Xmas? Cheers.

Yobarr, I most certainly agree with you about anyone who *cherry pics* parts of replies on any forum.

It was quite common in here in the past, maybe not so much now but this cherry picking can turn what might be a throw away line or part of a technical text into something that means something entirely different.

I was told it is bad forum etiquette to quote a Private Message from another member on a forum. I think it was Rob Driver or probably Angie that told me that.

I will pass your good wishes to Angie and Rob. Rob is having a fair old battle at the moment with his health. I am praying for his recovery.
