Bradman and Smithy.

As an avid test match watcher,  (the pure game of cricket) I feel that a couple of points need to be made regarding the commentators reference to Smithy equalling Bradmans record of 29 test hundreds.

Smithy is a great cricketer love watching him bat but, I offer a little bit of perspective on the remarks.

Bradman played in 55 tests and made 29 hundreds, and his bat was a lot narrower and lighter than present day ones!

Smithy has played in 87 tests for his 29.

That being said, I loved watching Smithy and Marnus bat yesterday, just wish that they could have got a couple of wickets late in the day.

Bradman didn't have to worry about missiles aimed at his head.

I think that comparing the two eras is rather silly & pointless.
They are/were both great batsman in THEIR era.

Unfortunately for you, you're not intelligent enough to understand my posts. The first prerequisite is to have a brain, so you fail immediately.

Whoops!. Hit a raw nerve there.

I have enough intelligence not to get involved in a slanging match with a well known stirrer. So go ahead and have the last word, I will not be indulging you any further on this thread, I have better things to do with my time.

Willow on Leather in Don's day was a totally different scene compared to today's test teams and matches, and played with Gentlemen's Rules (even with the body line bowling).

That being said; Smithy is a brilliant batsmen and a pleasure to watch, which is what the game is supposed to be all about. Teamed with Usman a delightful way to spend a summer day.

Who started the unpleasantness, you did.

I made a sensible comment.

Sir Donald made most of his runs facing a LOT less deliveries and often in a lot less time,( a few before lunch)

A bold statement: No one will ever be better than the Don. There are freaks in sport, he was one.

I don't understand why the Aussies didn't make the Windies follow on. 315 runs ahead and we bat again, for how long? Do we leave enough time to bowl them out again?

They seem to want to give the bowlers a rest, though they only bowled a max of 22 overs each and had about an hours play left. Too soft these days, a batsman's game.

What happened to an a win by an innings plus.

Cheers Bob

I know nothing about the G or is that where they learnt the art of "under arm bowling" or "ball tampering"  wink

"Animal Bar" at the WACA ?  That sounds like something very classy, not.

Nah, it's the gentlemen's game for me. With a great 19th hole biggrin

The "Animals Bar" was a 19th hole, only you don't have to walk the previous 18 holes.

It was a great place to watch cricket with your mates when we were in our 20's. Right behind Lillee and Thomson when they were bowling.

Walking and playing the 18 is pure pleasure, playing well or not makes no difference. Much more satisfying than just sitting watching. Bit like couch potatoes
