Touring Behaviour

To cover the speed issue mentioned, at 80 km/h you will cover 10 km in 7.5 minutes and at 100 km/h you will cover 10 km in 6 minutes.  If you have to follow a van for 10 kms before you can overtake, you have only added 1.5 minutes to your trip.  Is it really worth the agro?

See attached table.

Following another vehicle is a lot harder to do than driving on a traffic-free road. That's because you need to be constantly watching and anticipating the other driver. It's not about the travelling time, it's more about the unnecessary stress.

Proper use of the "cruise control" would prevent a lot of the agro. Sometimes I think I am following someone with epilepsy in the right leg.

 Thank you dorian.

Now I fully understand my behaviour when I go down the road and overtake every other motorists on the road going a bit off the pace that I want to travel at.

I do get out of the car with no stress.

So, if I now understand correctly, me travelling down the road in front of a road train doing 95kmh with TeePee in tow, then speeding up as that road train goes to overtake, is not the done thing then? Bugga! Mmmm, I think it will be hard to change my driving habits though. The good thing is, I only do it to road train drivers so no one else is affected. They have all day to get there but I have to get there by lunch time so I can have things set up in time for happy hour.

I can understand those who travel close behind a vehicle could get stressed, especially if they are not used to Sydney traffic.  Those in Sydney always tailgate in heavy traffic, it's the norm.  I would have thought though that in the country, you could stay a hundred metres behind until you saw a good spot to overtake and then close up just in time.

If I see someone sitting up my clacka I depress the brake pedal with my left foot just enough to activate the stop lights but not actually activate the brakes while using my right foot to accelerate away.
After a couple of times they get the hint.
A rally driver friend taught me that many years ago.
They brake as you accelerate away.
Try it, it works a treat.
