We looked into doing the same recently. Every place that we contacted wanted us to claim on our insurance & also replace the roller. We put it on the back burner, our roller works fine & the skin has just a bit of ordinary wear. Hope you have better luck over in the West!
Just having the awning material replaced at present.
A couple of points:
Some places - depending on the brand - will send you a new skin, but want to fold it like a blanket to keep the cost of transport down. However this can result in "pin-pricks" on the corners of the folds.
A better way is to have it rolled, placed in a tube/wrapped in a few layers. This then becomes cumbersome and can be a bit floppy.
Sending it already on the roller gives some rigidity. Wrapping the whole thing is easier. It saves some time and effort when actually fitting it to the rig.
Plus, the spring/mechanism can wear but not be evident. A new complete setup will cover this situation.
The added cost of the new roller etc is negligible and there are savings for the supplier in not needing to have "with" and "without" the extras stock.
