Hello fellow Nomads.
Although my caravan is now delayed until late January, my tow vehicle is finally on the docks in Sydney and due to be ready in the next few weeks.
I have a question for those who have installed 270 awnings on the passenger side of your vehicle.
There are lots of brands around, so which brand did you end up with? What swayed you that way?
I will have to get the attachable walls custom made whichever way I go, unless you know a manufacturer that makes 2.7 meter high annex walls.
Thanks for any help that might cut down hours of research.
Graham.
Agree with Mike. I had one fitted to Patrol with a view to using as lunch time or small duration stops to provide shade, a total waste of money. We opened it when installed - then travelled many Months never used it once.
Gave to Son to put on his MUX, as he travels with swag and it gives extra protection when camping in rain as well as an area to cook under in inclement weather.

Can I just add something?
I am not looking for comments on how much it costs, or how often I will use it, just advice on brands and quality.
Many thanks.

Mine was an inexpensive one, on Sale at Anaconda, branded "Dune". Quality was much better than expected.

I have an ARB side awning. Looking at aluminium extrusions of other manufacturers, the ARB is made from heavier extrusions. Also the fabric looked better. I feel it is well made.
P.S. last 3 month trip didn't use it once. Previous 3 month trip only used it a couple of times.

270 and 180 wings are far easier to set up and pack up than 4wd awnings. The former swings and folds while it supports itself, the latter is rolled as you support the weight. Darche make the Retreat tent to suit their 180 wing, more functional then walls only and also easier than walls.

One thing about this forum is you will get all the information regardless of you needing it or not.
Sometimes extra info can be beneficial other times it can involve the use of a WDH a generator or an aftermarket tow hitch.
Most custom annexe walls need to be made and this can be done by your local friendly tarp and tent maker.
I used Wormald Canvas in Adelaide for custom fitted walls about 7 years ago now and their job was perfect.
Hard to advise as you dont say where you are located.
