Road Train Tow hitch assy

SAF-HOLLAND (AUST) PTY. LTD - V.Orlandi Spa EH500B0 2018

Recall number - REC-005531

Affected units - 1211

What are the defects?

The failure seems to be caused by side loading of the coupling, which is at its greatest during slow speed manoeuvring while towing a triaxle dolly with a wide axle spread (greater than 2.8m). This could cause that the towed vehicle detaches from the towing vehicle during slow speed manoeuvring. This may cause an unexpected movement on the road when the vehicles are in motion.

What are the hazards?

An unintended movement of the vehicle when in motion may increase the risk of an accident causing serious injuries or death to vehicle occupants or/and other road users.

Over 1200 units effected (in Australia) - that's a bloody lot of trucks with potential faulty hitches.

Cue our forum expert.

If we go by the pictures he has been posting lately he may currently be operating a tri axle dolly.
Now whether it is a Holland we dont know but I am sure he will tell us all.

Well, that was fortuitous, Ivan. Rarely do I look at this part of the forum, but today I had a bit of spare time so "dropped in", so to speak! I'm not sure who you refer to as the "forum expert", but coincidentally I too drive a Roadtrain. The example that I drive has Rockinger Ringfeders and the tri-axle dollies have  an axle spread of 2.5 metres. Hope this helps, but I'd like to suggest that the subject EH500BO ringfeder looks, to me, a bit Dodgy Bros! Cheers
