So, fuel is cheap in Australia hey. disbelief
So, not long ago, 12-18mths were paying $1.00@lt for diesel, pre Ukraine war it was back up to normal, say $1.30@lt and now $2.35@lt.
Basically @ $1.00/lt, they were not giving it away below cost, no bloody way, so at $2.35/lt bloody huge profits, simple. hmm
So is fuel cheap in Australia at the moment, REALLY?
I would think 95% of Australians would love your phone number to discuss this further

I think that WAWT was indicating that fuel is cheaper in Aus if compared to other countries.

Which tree have you been napping under? External influences are many and they affect the price of fuel. Only 6 months ago the price of lettuce was $3 but now it is $12. Bloody big profit"? Think againCheers

Australian dollars in Germany about $2.85 litre, UK $2.90 litre.

It moves around with the exchange rate. If you were going there on holidays factor is loses on currency exchange rates.

It's only $811.08 extra.

We will shortly be gifted back with the extra excise which was never passed onto the consumer anyway.

I bet the extra 22 cents on the way back up will be passed on though.

The price of crude is down but we never see those reductions for a week or two, if ever. It is another story when it goes up.

While this practice is condoned by governments it will never be any different.

Why would a government want to forego one to two weeks of extra GST

Why wouldnt a government jump at the opportunity to collect extra GST the moment the price of fuel is raised by the fuel companies and immediately by the retailers.

All they will have to do now is how will they apply this to renewable energy.
The war in Ukraine does not stop the wind blowing or the sun shining but the governments will still need the tax that they currently collect from fuel sales.

Re fuel prices, I am sure the governments are already planning for EV excises on licences as they certainly won't be giving up one of their greatest sources of revenue.

I have parked my 4x4 in the garage on slow battery charge and we use my wife's Mazda 2 to travel everywhere now which by comparison, runs for nothing.

Pity it won't tow the caravan!

I have investigated replacing the Mazda 2 with a Kia EV6 but the maths at this stage simply don't add up for the purchase of an electric car which would cost me about $40,000 more than a new Mazda CX 30 (which won't tow the caravan either).

Costs me over $330 to fill the 4x4 last time I did it!

If you think 2.35 is ridiculous, I have just got back from another trip across the continent and diesel was 3.20 at Nullabor Roadhouse and Border Village.

I cannot remember the last time I did not fill the tank (years and years past) but today I put diesel in at $2.30 and decided that as I have no travel plans for the next couple of months I'd only half fill it hoping the price will drop before I need more although I suspect I may be over-confident.

Edit: testing if it's possible to delete multiple edit notes inserted by the system - it seems it is.

Double testing edit notes - all still good.
