Minimum wage rises by 1/8th lettuce an hour

Minimum wage rises by 1/8th lettuce an hour:

Australias lowest paid workers have received some rare good news after the Fair Work Commission announced that the minimum wage will increase by one leaf of iceberg lettuce per hour.

Retail worker Jodie Salmandi said she was excited about getting an extra lettuce per day. "My friends and I are going to go out and celebrate tonight with a few icebergs, she said. And then we might fill up with 450 millilitres of petrol on the way home".

Whilst not disagreeing with the $40 pay rise, we should be aware that it will cost the busssines almost $90 by the timey ou add on pay roll tax, holiday pay, sick leave, maternity leave, insurance superanuation, etc.

That means $90 added to inflation figures.

Back to Withlam years, for those who remember.

Mind you other than maybe increased welfare assistance for lower paid workers, I have no idea of a solution

LOL

Although helping those suffering from not having their wages increase with inflation isn't funny.

Wages were once paid in salt, rum, beer, tobacco, cocoa bean, Parmigiano cheese. Lettuce is more healthy!

It is a funny ( well maybe not so funny) that wages that are negotiated by one organised body for any group of workers only ever indicate the lowest figure that any individual may be worth.

All the other workers who may be worth a little more in remuneration will not be paid their actual worth.
The employer will never set an example of paying anyone any higher than the organised body has negotiated because that figure will then become the standard recognised.

A fair and equitable wage can be negotiated if both employer and employee ignore the demands of those that supposedly represent the trade or vocation.

I never worked a day of my career for an award figure negotiated by others.
