Concertina Door

Has anyone fitted a concertina door to a Jayco Silverline between kitchen and bedroom

I fitted a cheap concertina door between bedroom and ensuite in my van (not a Jayco). I picked the lightest one from Bunnings and cut the panels to the right length. From memory I had a couple of panels that were not used. It was easy and works fine.

You did not say the reason for your enquiry so I hope what I wrote helps.

As Stephen says, it is an easy job which I did, also with a door from Bunnings. Door can easily be cut to size for height, while width simply depends on how many panels you retain from the original number. Cheers

Good idea I think, and easily done if you're any sort of a handyman. Otherwise a tradie could do it in an hour or so. Cheers

We had a concertina door fitted to our Silverline as you are planning. A bumpy road and it came away from the ceiling. The ceiling ply is only 3mm thick, and a concertina door is quite heavy. I would suggest mounting a reinforcing beam across where you intend to fit it, much the same as what is done between the bedroom and ensuite, that supports the sliding door.

That is a good suggestion Ian, but maybe not necessary here because the Bunnings kit comes complete with two 'verticals' that carry the weight of the top 'beam' which is held in place by 4 small screws into the ceiling ply. During my travels I have travelled some very bad roads, such as the Western end of the BowenDevelopment Road from Mt Coolon, and although I broke my van's spring packs the concertina door stayed put. Always I travel with that door closed, and all good so far. Cheers

Just fit 2 small hooks joined by plastic covered spring wire with a nice cotton shower screen.

End of all dramas, easy clean by throwing it into the washing machine, cheap as, weighs very little for a bonus.

Are you concerned about excessive weight behind the tojo ?

Thanks for asking but I can assure you that it's not a problem, although I have heaps of water capacity that I can play with if necessary. And you may know that the car has carrying capacity of something like 1500kg, so plenty of room there too! Cheers

In the case of our Jayco Silverline, where the concertina door was fitted, the distance between the bulkhead near the slide out, where the 1st pillar, or vertical support was fitted, to the bulkhead over at the fridge side where the second pillar was fitted was about 1000mm. The extrusion that carried the concertina door was not able to support the weight of the door without being well secured to support on the ceiling. I believe the OP is going to install the door in the same area. This is why I suggested that the OP install a beam across the ceiling, similar to that installed for the door between the bedroom and ensuite and attach the extrusion to that. Yobar perhaps your Silverline is different, as you know there are many different models and layouts.

What's wrong with "Open Plan"?

Nothing, we ordered ours with the door, but when it came adrift, we left it off. Gave us more room, took away some weight, wouldn't bother with one.

We added some Velcro on either end to stop the curtain opening when one brushes against it. It seems to be working so far.

3 years now, one of my best DIY jobs.

Has not fallen on the floor, gotten jammed and no one forgets to secure the door. A big bargain.

My Jayco Westport came with a concertina door between the bedroom & Kitchen an another across the entrance to the enSuite.

We only use the former when someone is occupying our DIY bed in the kitchen area (with the table removed).   Its other use is when I want quiet time in the kitchen/lounge area & SWMBO is watching TV in bed, but it is certainly a good addition.

I reckon that adding one to your set up is a very good idea especially if you could match it to your existing one.

Hi, Yobo rr.

Yeh, well you would. I guess if the tojo would not have the carrying capacity as standard. Sooo ,, you were forced to get major modifications in the form of heavier springs in order to cope with the loads.

It happens when people make poor decisions.

Shame you now will have a ride like a bullock dray. I guess it's your spine, not mine.

Cheers OB ;)

Unbelievable. Some people just cant help themselves. If a question is asked and you can offer sensible advice, do it. No need to criticise other peoples comments unless they outright silly and you are able quantify why their answer is silly or wrong. Give it a rest - we are fed up with it. Rant over
