Caravan, motorhome accident between Cardwell & Ingham

Just read in today's Bulletin of an accident yesterday afternoon on the Bruce Highway. It appears that the dual cab towing a van pulled out in front of an overtaking motorhome.

Pictures show the ute had Clearview mirrors but the driver must not have checked all was clear. The motorhome stopped within inches of rolling down a steep ravine. No-one was injured, one driver was shaken up. Police said had the MH gone down the ravine, it would have been a fatal accident.

I don't have the links.

Glad nobody was hurt, could've been horrific.

No bratboy,
No sensation, just a small clip on page 9. Just a reminder about looking before one decides to overtake, especially as most of us see incidents like this on our highways on a regular occurrence.
While the governments can improve our roads, it is up to us, the drivers to use them safely.

Thanks dorian.

To be honest, unfortunately I believe there are only going to be too many more accidents like this. I find many of the "new" drivers on the road to be almost devoid of common sense....AND courtesy!

Yeah i am probably an "old fart" at 68, but have many many years and kilometres of safe driving experience behind me, from driving cars to road trains...things like checking mirrors regularly are habit, especially before pulling out to overtake.
Remember when you took the mandatory driving lessons before going for your license? I got my car driver license in 1971...the Instructor would put a hand over the mirror from time to time and ask..."what is behind you right now?"

I wonder if they still do? Probably not....care factor zero. They teach kids how to get their license, not how to drive!

I have had my share of cars pulling out to overtake the car in front of them when i am already in the outer lane overtaking...But you know what my pet hate is?

The narrow minded brainless car driver that pulls out in front of you from a side road causing you to hit the brakes and slow to almost a crawl as they then accelerate to speed...and there are no visible cars behind me!

If they just waited even another 10 seconds they would not stuff me around and they could pull on to the road no drama and away they go...These types of drivers do cause accidents...

I've had bad experiences with people not properly indicating when they overtake. On one incident:

I checked my mirrors and rear-view camera (car behind me had no indicators on), I indicated (still no indication of what the driver behind me was going to do), I sped up to overtake, (one last check of the side mirrors) and then there's some moron overtaking me. I've had to brake hard because I was just about to pull overtake.  disbelief

The road rules say give enough indication to let other road users know what you are going to do. Not what you've just done. I'd indicated my intentions but the moron behind me just overtook without giving enough, if any, indication. Where's at least five seconds of indicators and then more because one's traveling at speed. I wonder why he thought I had on my indicators?  disbelief

I am convinced a huge number of motorists think they will wear out the indicators on their car if they use them all the time. I am also of the belief that rear view mirrors should be an option at purchase as very few people seem to actually use them...if they had to pay for them they might use them!

It's bloody hard to find blinker fluid at the moment, what with all these covid related distribution problems.

I'd imagine that half the drivers wouldn't even bother to buy the mirrors.
