 What's a flame war?

We had never clicked on TikTok until the daughter in law started emailing the link through, a lot less data than a video file.

China is probably watching you Dorian............smilesmile

People are watching me, but I don't think any of them are Chinese.

However, Chinese tentacles are everywhere. This massive hack affected some of the largest private companies and was facilitated by a tiny IC disguised as a filter ("choke").

The Big Hack: How China Used a Tiny Chip to Infiltrate U.S. Companies

The attack by Chinese spies reached almost 30 U.S. companies, including Amazon and Apple, by compromising Americas technology supply chain, according to extensive interviews with government and corporate sources.

Edit:

About 35 years ago I was sent to the PRC to do a computer installation. The salesman was from Hong Kong, but his father was in the Taiwanese government. One day he was spooked when his local girlfriend told him that someone pretending to be him had telephoned her. He asked if I would swap rooms with him. I agreed (he was on the top floor of the best hotel, while I was in the dungeon), so I expect that the PLA were spying on me from that point on.

We will be like Buzzlightlobes' Orchids soon, sprouting everywhere, many bushfires here in the last 6 months.

I wouldn't join tictok, or any other social media, for privacy reasons.

The app has five trackers and requests 66 permissions.

https://reports.exodus-privacy.eu.org/en/reports/256650/

I would personally think that's an invasion of privacy.

One can use the website to watch tictok videos. It has the same issue of tracking as some websites. It has cookies, so it's tracking something. What, I don't know.

It all depends on how much privacy one wants. If you're the type of person who doesn't mind providing your data to strangers, then it's okay to use. Some people leave their bedroom curtains open at night.
