slide on advice - Palomino & NorthStar especially

Dear web of Wisdom

Looking for anyone with specific brand experience Palomino vs. NorthStar slide-on-campers.

Good/bad/what breaks/what doesn't/after sales support/would you buy another & why - that kind of stuff please.

Currently these two are the short list with Palomino ahead on price and availability but only marginally so.

Both seem to use similar build techniques (not composite - boo!) but them's the breaks.

Over to the table of knowledge then.....

Dave

I looked into these a few years ago and decided on the North Star, is a little bit more solid, and they had better warranty. What I almost bought though was an Australian brand, that has a T/S it is a poptop, a rounded top, on it, can't remember the name but they had yellow canvas curtain for the pop up material. Good Australian Quality build and better price. Then next would have been a Trayon, although half canvas and no toilet/shower, you can get these if you bought the dedicated trailer for it.

Peter and Sandra OKA 374 had one of those (which I can not recall) on an F250 in the USA.
Cheers,
Peter

ps...
We had an F350 with slide-on prior to the OKA. We rarely took it of and it was always ready for a week-end away.
We eventually fixed the slide-on to the vehicle. It was then registered as a motorhome instead of a truck. Registration and comprehensive insurance reduced substantially.
Cheers,
Peter

Dave as Peter said we had a Palomino Real lite pop top on our F250 in Canada and the US for around 12 months and while it worked well it was showing signs of wear mostly from the environment, the freezing conditions in winter especially. I wouldn't intend to use one here in Oz as the materials especially the interior fitout ws very average and wouldn't last.
you really need to get one made from composite, sent you a link

I don't know what link Peter sent you, but I have purchased my latest batch of sandwich panel from here.....
www.vanglassrv.com.au/truck-campers
Best quality sandwich available, I reckon, and they will build anything you want or send it as a flat pack. Talk to Shaun.
Cheers,
Peter
