New free camp up and running

Last March I posted about 2 new free camps to be opened on the Mitta Mitta.

Just came back from a trip up that way,and one is opened and the other will be opened soon.

Some photos of the start and the finish. New tables and benches,fire pits and a drop toilet,

The Mitta Mitta is a long river, you still haven't pinpointed where these "new" free camps are.
They look good.

This is the second one,near Scrubby Creek Rd.Just Nth of Mitta Mitta on the main Hwy heading towards Eskdale.

Camping area still not fully opened yet,should be soon,

Hi Mike, river access not to easy,you are a lot higher up than K.P. and the other new one.

Toilet is open, but the camping area is still taped off.Looks more likely suited to Small vans ,campers or tents.

P T , did they widen the entrance to K P Camping area. Seem to recall it could be a bit tight?

Wikicamps lists the site east of Eskdale as Platypus Bend. It appears to have been added Nov 2021. The site between Mitta Mitta town and Airport isn't listed yet probably because camping hasn't started.

 It is nearly finished,that is the one near Scrubby Creek Rd

 I like looking at the reviews on Wikicamps.

That's what I use it for.

My vehicle has no GPS or any other gadgets to help me find a location.

I mostly use RACV maps.

I'd be interested in camping in these spots in late Spring.

In the area Lightning Creek (30km south Mitta Mitta) is a beautiful camp too, less frequented than KP and more remote - no mobile coverage or TV.

btw by not using GPS and understanding mapping coordinates you are missing a *lot* of very helpful and useful navigation aids.

 You're probably right but we didn't save our ''bush camping by ourselves routine'' until when we retired 12 years ago.

We've been making our own bush camps out by ourselves since the 70's.

We reckon 5 more years will see us out with a bit of luck.

Bike re-pair tools and bike stand, a big rarity these days, although happening more in VIC, more then any other state. Will keep this place in mind especially if you can take dog's there.

 There is another set of tools on the other side,dogs allowed.

It will be fully opened soon,the area will be named in the honor of a local who was one of the last veterans who lost their lives in Vietnam War.
