Have heard that many conflicting reports about Walgett in NSW -eg do not stay there under any circumstances, great place to stay would highly recommend. So, in short, is it a good place to stay for one or two days or just keep driving?
There is nothing to see other than an amazing corner store that sells guns and ammunition right alongside milk and bread. Lightning Ridge is only a few clicks up the road.
Hi, we had an enjoyable 2 nights April 2021 and on another occasion 1n May 2017 just an overnighter, we stayed at the donation rest area just as you are coming into town from the south.
Clean toilets, dump point, picnic tables and I may of topped up with water.
A must see a water tower painted with a portrait one of the finest country singers Great Jimmy Little.
Enjoy the town of Walgett
I would be more worried about the bloke in the next caravan over.
The reports you have read/herd are ancient history. I have not camped there but had lunch whilst travelling through,I have seen no ferals roaming the street. WikiCamps has no negative reports over the last 12 months (over 45 reports.)
There is an interesting report in WikiCamps dated 13 July 2021:
There is a farm stay Muddy Waters ($12) north of town backs onto the Barwon, you couldn't get more positive reports on this spot (wikicamps). The town itself has had problems but it takes time & hard work to resolve, I hope they are on a recovery there, any country town is worth a visit just keep things secure and enjoy.
They have cleaned their act up, but have never had any issues there, ever, except, when One of the locals came into the pub that we were having a meal at to tell, us that someone had run into the back of my van and he gave us the rego number. He saved us a packet of money.
