What does RACQ say ? I do recall reading that the reciprocal arrangements only covers the basic roadside cover in the state you need help. At the time I thought is meant differences in things like towing distances not the conditions like you've encountered. Buggar ! Surely if the reciprocal arrangement doesn't cover you then your own state organisation must come into play ? Another reason to have Ultimate.
I guess and hope the immediate issue no longer exists. If you have Ultimate you're covered whatever vehicle you are driving but thinking about it, that might not include an interstate rego when interstate. Just something I will need to check myself now our daughter has relocated to Sydney. I guess and hope the immediate issue is done and dusted. My wife in in Sydney atm and she actually mentioned how happy she was driving the Hilux not one of our two suburban runabouts.
NRMA will not provide roadside assistance if you have driven thru a water puddle. Stuck on the roadside in a small car in Manly NSW and NRMA will not provide assistance!!
It's not an issue as everyone on Sydney's Northern Beaches is driving a Range Rover or a pauper Land Rover like me!

Further to refusal by NRMA to tow because water involved -
The son phoned his insurance QBE - naturally he was concerned and very
worried about the situation given the NRMA experience.
Well all's good - QBE as reported by the son, were more than helpful -
put his mind at rest and is organising the tow at this moment.
On two other occasions over the years I personally have had dealings with
QBE in major claims - no problems and in fact one felt as I was among
friends.
Exemplary performance by Insurance company in every sense of the word.
(And by-the-way, have never been able to better their price insuring all
the details offered to other quoters were exact).
I don't suffer fools kindly - so a few words like the foregoing is more than
a good recommendation for QBE. NRMA the very opposite!! Bad experiences
every time. Just my experiences for your information.
Dont drive in deep or flooded water !! Simple ! If your ignition is subject to stopping engine if wet ? Get it serviced with good leads etc . If you break down in flooded water ? Dont expect to towed out ! Dont put people in danger !! Check height of inlet snorkel ? Any water induction will kill your engine ! Water doesnt compress !!
Glad QBE worked out for you, they decided not to insure our block of units due to being Tenants in Common. Never made a claim. Basically told to go elsewhere out of the blue.

NRMA won't provide assistance to cars caught in floodwaters, this certainly isn't a matter of you can't get assistance if you drive through a puddle. Really if water is deep enough to cause you issues why would you think the NRMA or any other roadside assistance is going to risk themselves and their vehicle following you into it.
Ring a local towe then claim as break down . First or now you know ? Make sure air inlet to engine is above water but a reasonable amount . These days its not water into electrical, ignition so much ! Its water into engine . If that happens !! Chances are it will have a bent connecting rod ? Engine WILL need to be pulled apart ! Just drying it out wont help ! Water does NOT COMPRESS !

If the car stopped ? Chances are it could have sucked water into engine !! A simple splash shouldnt stop any vehicle in good well serviced condition !!
