Keen to see new things

i am keen to see Tasmania ,however , I understand weather plays a major part on the island. Ferry fares are quite reasonable at the moment and as this makes a significant part of any cost going to Tasssy am i being silly considering this time ...

Would you travel there from march through to july ? I have been looking at temperatures across tassy and yes there are some low temps. Has anyone travelled there in the time span i am considering ... love to read your experiences.

Any time is great, just avoid the school holidays if possible.

This is April on the Cenral Plateau.

BUT it can snow at any time of the year in Tasmania, especially in the high country.

What sort of vehicle are you travelling in?

Cheers,

Peter

We did Tassie for 3 weeks in mid March a few years back. It was what you'd expect of Autumn weather, coolish days, cold nights.....personally we love autumn. It was great walking weather, lots to see, and everything was quite lush and green. We did encounter some fog which at the time made viewing mountains disappointing....never did see Cradle Mountain. Looking back through all my pictures we never seemed to be rugged up, just light vests, cardigans and the like, so nothing bitterly cold. Encountered some stormy weather towards the bottom of Tassie for a couple of days, made for an exciting David Penticost boat trip. But at the same time on the northern most beaches people were swimming. So 50/50 with weather, also some beautiful sunny days. What it's like later than March, I've no idea, no doubt would be colder getting into Winter. With the weather lately, which does seem to be somewhat more erratic, anything is possible. I think, like most places, there always something of appeal no matter what season, but Autumn I think is especially beautiful

Great photos, thanks for posting them, Tassie is on our list to do in the next year or so.
I don' think we will be disappointed from those shots

All of it, not just some of it. There is a lot of country to explore.

Cheers,

Peter

We left our caravan at home in Melbourne & took our 4x4 ute over on the ferry.
We did the full circle plus many side trips over a period of three & a half weeks all of which we stayed in cabins.
It was in April & the weather was up & down a bit. We had some wind, showers & fog/low cloud on top of Mt Wellington that restricted the magnificent views.
It was a nice trip but we probably wouldn't bother again, too much to see & do on the big island.

The trip over was totally boring & the loading & unloading process took forever.

Time restrictions meant that we were limited to seeing the iconic, popular attractions. Obviously there are many fantastic places to enjoy with more time.

I'm envious. Drove to top of Mt Wellington twice. Cloudy weather buggered us.

86gts, yes need at least a month to see it all.

Yep, those extra few days would have made a world of difference.

I think I went in July. There was snow. It was magical. It was a bit cold, I bought a hat with earflaps and didn't care what I looked like in it :D I love the cold, I'd rather go anywhere cold than anywhere hot. Sitting there stuffing your face and looking out at a snowy wonderland is magical.
