Isolation whilst on the road

There are lots off spots to camp long term because of the virus no need to go bush take this for instance in my former central coast residency before covert there was virtually no free camping allowed now some popular car parks have become long term free camps .I have noticed at least 15 regular campers taking advantage of not paying hefty fees at over rated caravan parks.I am not complaining I do go to one of my favourite spots at lakes beach very regularly with toukley golf course nearby and the beach just metres away .Water is not a problem just take a jerry can every time you go out or jump in the ocean and rinse off .

There is no dump points on the central coast and that also goes for lots of shires on the nsw coast which is lagging behind from the rest of the country but other than that you just got to have the guts to stay at some of these places.

I now have moved to Newcastle after being on the coast for 35 years and much is the same up here but dont tell anyone

Well, currently, an area 35km south of Inverell, NSW at Copeton Dam East, even though the dam is almost full, and their are less area's to camp at, the place is packed with anti-vaxers, mostly as they cannot work, and can't stay at c.van parks. It is free camping there, just dam water, but no toilets. The few I spoke to there, said they lost their jobs, and lost their homes( mostly renters), so they have come here,. These are families with kids under and over 5 years of age. I don't know what they are going to do when the kids have to go back to school. Also they have no income, you cannot get unemployment , family benefits unless you are vaccinated.

I am assuming by Isolating on the road you mean if you cross a border and have to Isolate for the required period.

Are there not security check ups needed to ensure Isolation is actually being adhered to. So your location is needed by the authorities.

People I know who have had to isolate after returning to WA have been regularly checked by the police, while in isolation at the address and it was random "but thorough".

In a camper or caravan I assume you can not come out of it for Shopping ,Fuel ,Water,

A person could self-isolate in a cabin (with ensuite facilities).
A person could self-isolate in a campervan or caravan (subject to having on-board bathroom and kitchen facilities)
A person cannot self-isolate in any accommodation which relies upon shared bathroom or cooking facilities.
Interested myself in what people do if needing to isolate in a camper or caravan.

Isolate in the bush if you have to, you just need 7 days worth of supplies, that is if you have covid, or were a close contact, but for other reasons to isolate, I think it would be very hard to do if, you are not self contained. We hope to travel to QLD this year sometime, and am worried about this as well, as we are not self contained, inside. We do have a toilet tent, toilet and shower, but they may not accept this.

Some caravan parks permitted people to isolate within the facility. Now some parks are refusing entry to unvaccinated people.

No one knows when or where a person who is vaccinated is supposed to isolate. But I thought I heard that this may be abolished soon and isolation will be only for overseas travel and that maybe only in certain states.

Who really knows what an expert will come up with next week.

I have not had to isolate as I have managed to dodge that bullet, at least for now.
Just after I was diagnosed with cancer and had started treatment, I was in a park that had permitted a Covid positive person to isolate. This was before vaccinations were commonly available.

They had rules that the person could not use the facilities but had to use the ensuite in the van.
The person still proceeded through necessity to attend the dump point and one day he had a visitor just turn up as well.

Due to my concern and even though I was not that well, I hooked up and pulled out and found a spot on private property.
I felt a lot safer there and as things turned out the owners of that property became closer friends and were very helpful to me. They helped me present and sell my caravan and then helped me move into a small house.

I think if anyone has to isolate then you would need to check the rules applicable on the day and in the state.. Out in the bush might be a good option provided the authorities could find you for the *check that you are doing the right thing check up*

Being in your home state or interstate wasn't my concern, it was just being away and realizing you have caught covid and not wanting to pass it on to others.

Hi Gaylehere,

I think some have mentioned options that could be done but to be sure it might be wise to check with the state authorities as to the current requirements in that area.

It was mentioned that a caravan park might be an option although you may not be popular and I have heard of some isolating in motel rooms.
If I tested positive I would contact state health authorities or maybe the local police for advice.
Even the local council may help you.

My wife & I have essentially been isolating since Covid first made an entrance to Australia. From covid rather than with covid.

We were in FNQ at the time & had to decide whether to return home to Vic or not.

We were in a position of having nowhere to go otherwise, but concerned about the realities of travelling home.

We got lucky & found a farm sit 30kms west of Mareeba where we stayed for 15 months. In hindsight it was an excellent decision.
There was no community transmission in the area whilst were there.

When Cape York re-opened this year with no cases on the Cape, we decided to explore up here as we had hoped to do in 2020.

We are still on the Cape. There are now cases up here in most of the communities, but we are isolated at Moreton Telegraph station with supplies to last until the end of the wet season. Caretaking.

We had hoped to travel over to Arnhem Land when we finish here in April or May, but partly due to the unique opportunity, & partly because we can't predict what may eventuate with Omicron we have accepted an offer to live in the Iron Range Rainforest for 12 months, caretaking a privately owned research facility. We will be exposed to covid in Lockhart River community, our first time anywheren with community transmission, but we feel that this is probably more manageable that being on the move passing through places where we don't know the community's covid status.

We will only need to go into the community occasionally to shop in the one general store, & if we do catch the virus we will be able to isolate where we are living.

In our view stopping for longer periods for unique & interesting experiences is as much 'travelling' as moving on regularly is.
Not many folk get opportunities to live in such a dynamic bio-diverse environment, in comfort, as this.

Our hope is that by mid 2023 when we get back on the move, that the covid picture might look a little easier for us 'fulltimers'.

When did the rule come in that u cannot get unemployment Benefits if unvaccinated.
