California to ban the sale of RV generators fron 2024.

California Small Engine Ban Will Include RV Generators Too (motor1.com)

A recently ratified law in California will ban the sale of new, small off-road engines in the state as soon as January 1, 2024. These are the types of powerplants in lawnmowers and leaf blowers. However, the current wording also affects the built-in generators in RVs.

Cheers,

Peter

Hmmmm... so people will have to buy them via mail order from another state.

Other states are banning them too. It is just a matter of time. Get used to it.

There is more chance of banning the sale of firearms in the USA (and that is zero chance) than there is to stop Californian's from acquiring a new generator from somewhere !

I've found solar panels provide enough power except for the air-conditioning.

They are also doing this in NZ, and just like the tobacco ban, Australia will follow suit. I had a new guy turn up as a contractor to mow my law, he came with an battery lawnmower, and whipper snipper. Now the whipper snipper, lasted for the full 2 hours no problem, but the lawn mower only lasted an hour, luckily, he had a spare battery, but he also had a fast charger, that needed my power to charge. The whole job ended up at 6 hours, I only paid him for 3, because that is how long it takes with petrol motors. He was not happy, and although he is eco conscious, he needs to make money, so bought the petrol versions, now knowing that battery systems are too slow, and can't cut it. Battery systems, solar systems, etc, are not at an industry level yet to replace ICE'S, they will be one day, maybe 10 years from now.

You may need to expand or upgrade your system.Good Solar will make 3 times as much power as El Cheapo. My 2.5kw AC runs 24/7 if necessary, and I can run my microwave, electric frypan,TV etc at the same time.NO gas appliances in my my van,so no gas bottles and no hassle.Cheers

The battery systems not only dont cut it but way too expensive & so are extra batterys.

There are commercial line trimmers and lawn mowers that will last all day now.
https://egopowerplus.com.au/commercial
We have an EGO line trimmer. The standard 56V battery lasts longer than we do. biggrin And batteries are developing very rapidly.

The electrical technology exists and it will get rapidly better and cheaper. I think some of the "not in my lifetime" people are not planning to live very long. confuse

Most 2 strokes were banned some years ago. Small 4 stroke engines are not much better. They have no emission standards for exhaust or noise. They could not meet any reasonable standard. They will dissapear, just like ICE cars.

Cheers,

Peter

Have to laugh at those saying 'not in my lifetime'
so when they bring in a new law, does that mean your life will end shortly after? :)
Its only a matter of time until this happens but it will take many years for people to get used to the idea that generators dont cut it anymore. they are inefficient and mean that you need use them
i wish i could get rid of mine but every so often, i NEED to drag it our and fire it up.

It seems like people are getting a little hysterical about the ban in the sale of specified goods in this thread like they did on the sale of internal combustion engine vehicles. They are sounding like they think the prohibition of sales of equipment means the ban on use of equipment they have on hand. It does not, you can still use that equipment for the term of its natural life or until suitable fuel becomes unobtainable.

Those comments are as silly as the famous statement about "spoiling the long weekend." We will be able to use our 4WDs for years after the sale of new diesel engine vehicles are prohibited.

So you run big engine ( truck or RV ) to charge batteries if required ? I think they should make rules for better, quieter generators . With most things going elect ? It doesnt leave a plan B option !!

Don't know about Russia, but while we argue about it, China and India are getting on with it.

For instance, India has forced the conversion of about 1 million tuck-tucks to electric. They also have the largest solar programme in the world.

Cheers,

Peter

 Just had a little search.

People also ask

Which country has the most electric buses?

China

It is clear that China is by far the leader in terms of the deployment of electric buses. Indeed, to date, the country has more than 421,000 electric buses circulating in Chinese cities with a rate of circulation of 9,500 buses every 5 weeks. The figures are final.4 Mar 2021

That must be why, last year, China built three times the capacity of coal fired power stations than the rest of the world put together....

One only has to walk into a Bunnings store to see how quickly small engine mowers, and tools of every variety are being replaced by electric/battery units just in the past 5 yrs. Much of Europe are now banning, or rapidly phasing out ICE of all kinds. I think 10 yrs will see huge changes in what will be available. Campers will be the least of their considerations, especially when there are other, and often cheaper alternatives to generators/ICE's.

What do they use to charge the elect busses ? Buses charge on solar while being used through the day ? Or solar charges batteries then inverter to charge busses at night ? I suspect coal fired ?

Good for them. Long way to go but.

And by the way, what knowledge do you assert that I have never been there. You know full well what they say about assumptions.

I have, as a matter of interest never found it necessary to inform anyone where I have traveled.

Cheers, Cobber
