About a year ago I purchased a new drinking quality water hose from a reputable caravan accessory dealer, I have discovered a green slime in the hose, it appears that even though the hose was white it still didn't prevent alge growing in the hose.

Originally it connected from the water supply to the filter pack and a 2nd blue hose from the filters to the van. Unfortunately recently I swapped the hoses around and some alge got into the system and blocked water from entering the van.

No health issues because we only drink bottled water. Hose has been binned and replaced with a new blue one.

Good Info Gundog. I use a good quality drinking water hose from 'Hoselink' and have done so for many moons now. Every now and then I use a 12v pump I have set up and pump a bucket of warm water with vinegar through just to keep any unwanted whatever out. Seems to have worked even with bore water in a few places I stay.

Just be careful of seagulls around the bucket of water and vinegar. I reckon they think there are chips for the taking.

Strange because I use a regular garden hose to fill my tanks and just roll them up and join the ends together to store. Don't have it deployed for weeks though, but occasionally for a few days Never had a problem and we drink the water from the tanks.

 Bugs can grow anywhere that there is water and something (anything) to feed on, even in total darkness.

I suggest that the hose had no part to play. It would have happened with any hose.

This is why town water is chlorinated.

I also wonder whats growing/festering inside those in line water filters?

Never use one. 

The place for the filters is after thae tank and before the taps and the water needs to be chlorinated. This is especially important if the system sits unused for a few days.
