Sad and sad to say but all too often these accident reports don't give the full or even the real truth as to the actual cause.

Like many things, media is only aware of road accidents if people or traffic flow are affected. Sadly there are lots of accidents on our roads that never get a mention. I'm not sure if numbers are shifting or not but it's unlikely to be a dramatic change in a short time.

Lots of reports of bad driver behaviour since lockdowns eased in Victoria. This one says driver of truck was " erratic before the event ", but no known cause as yet.

How can you waffle-on that there "seems to be an increase in truck crashes"? Have you conducted any studies into the number of crashes involving both cars and trucks? To save you some time,it is a FACT that 85% of fatal accidents involving both a truck and a car are the fault of the car driver. Given that truck drivers regularly cover huge distance (I used to drive a 63 ton B Double 1000km each DAY,6 days/week while most motorists would take around 2 weeks to cover the same distance) these are pretty good figures,I'm sure you'd agree? Many motorists have very little spatial awareness,and don't even notice that they have 4 metre high,2.5 metre wide vehicle directly behind them,let alone that it is 26 metres long and weighs 63 ton,around 40 times what their car weighs. Don't get me started here,as I would be up all night explaing things to you,but trucks don't stop on a sixpence.Regularly we'll be travelling at 100km/hr,with a good,safe,gap to the car ahead,when some clown will come flying past,pull in ahead of us,and promptly slow to 90km/hr.As professionals,truck drivers are NOT the problem,which can probably be found by you looking into a mirror.Cheers.

Hi Craig.My comment is not aimed at you,but what makes an "average motorist" think that he has anywhere near the ability to determine that a professional driver is driving "erratically"? Some of the "near misses" and "lucky escapes" seen on TV and the internet are no such thing,but simply highlight that the bleater has no ability to judge distances.'Nuff for now.Cheers

Chris, I said "driver behaviour ", not truck drivers, but I only repeated what was reported. Some people who drive cars also drive trucks as well. IF he was erratic I can only hope it was an unknown medical condition.

It was an awful mess from TV vision though.

Just heard on " talk back ", there are lots of road works very close, one alternate road closed, down to 40 km/h straight from 110 km/h. Driver has been released, no charges at this stage.

No doubting that might be true Chris. The same can apply to some dipstick truckies, like the one who was high on ice and went thru a red light and killed a woman who was turning right with a green arrow, t-boned her 200m down the road.

Happened in WA and the next car in line filmed the lot on dashcam, very disturbing. He got 7 years jail i seem to recall. Or the one that killed 4 cops who were arresting Richard Pusey in Vic, ........Ice again.

Lowlifes behind all sorts of vehicles.

My wife and I had a very bad experience in Queensland , without going into detail he told us over cb he was going to kill us and ran us off the road, we were very lucky to be alive , I reported it to the cops , told them I tried to chase him down , comment from the cops, never ever chase a truckie and knock on his door most of them carry firearms Surprise surprise!!! Law unto them selves

My wife and I had a very bad experience in Queensland , without going into detail he told us over cb he was going to kill us and ran us off the road, we were very lucky to be alive , I reported it to the cops , told them I tried to chase him down , comment from the cops, never ever chase a truckie and knock on his door most of them carry firearms Surprise surprise!!! Law unto themselves. Isolated incident yes but lucky to still be here. All because we were doing 10ks under the limit on a **** road.

Well,this is something new! NEVER in my truck driving life,spread intermittently over a total of 50 years,have I seen or heard of a truckie carrying a gun.NEVER.Probably it is safe to suggest that there is NO WAY KNOWN that a policeman would ever say such to you either.AND,if you did indeed "report(ed) it to the cops",I wonder why they did not charge the truckie with "threatening to kill" or whatever.There is no way known that a truckie,or anybody else,would make a threat to kill over a CB channel.Nah,nothing adds up here. Assuming this ever occurred,which I doubt,you must have done something very bad to enrage the truckie? Or are you perhaps like many motorists who drive around in LaLa land,grasping the steering wheel, white knuckled,and staring straight ahead with no idea what is going on around you? No Cheers.These ridiculous attacks on truckies,who are simply trying to earn a living to support their families, and paying tax to help support the no hopers of society (aged pensioners and some disability pensioners excluded) are nothing to be cheerful about.Shame on you.Truckies carry the country.

P.S There are other groups who possibly need (NOT deserve) welfare,but I merely genaralise here.

Doesn't happen.When I am travelling in my van,I am on holiday,and wish to see the countryside as I travel.To do this,I sit on around 80km/hr,but keeping one eye on the road behind me.NEVER have I had trouble with semis,B Doubles or even the 205 ton Road Trains in the North of WA,with their 4 trailers.(110 wheels) because I simply call them,saying nothing more than "I see you there mate.Come 'round when you're ready".They acknowledge my call,and as they usually know the road,can plan their overtaking manouvre.When they're ready to go,they'll let me know so that if there ever was a problem,I could give them a bit more room,by slowing down. People who annoy truckies the most are those who can't maintain a steady speed,don't know we're even behind them,and particularly those clowns who wish to travel at some ridiculously low speed UNTIL there's a passing lane.Then it's pedal to the metal,until the passing lane ends.Again,for your benefit,I will remind you that 85% of FATAL accidents involving both a car and a truck are caused by the car driver.Given that many truckies travel 250,000 to 300,000km,or more,per year,while an "average" motorist may travel 30,000km/year,that is a frightening statistic.And you think truckies are bad? Behave.

Just yesterday. B double was up my arse, perhaps 3 or 4 car lengths behind me. 0 safety margin.

I pulled over. With luck he will be wrapped around an old gum tree by now.

To be fair there are arsoles in every industry.

As for moving goods it would be a good idea to use the railways as well. Truckies have to learn that they do not have priority on the roads. That there are other road users. Good and Bad.

Melbourne News tonight with dashcam vision " maybe poorly marked speed limit reductions ", but it would appear truck driver has locked up his brakes and awful consequences.

To my comment that most truck drivers are too skilful to end up "wrapped around an old gum tree" you respond "Bull****". Since "most" means "more than 50%",what you are saying is that you think that more than half of all truck drivers on the road are likely to end up "wrapped around an old gum tree".And then you have the temerity to suggest that,one day,I will grow up. Truckies on the Bruce rarely use their UHF to talk to anyone but other truckies. I drive GC to Rocky all times of day and night and this last 6 months it's been a fortnightly trip. They certainly bully drivers sitting on the speed limit as they approach hillier terrain because they want the extra speed before they hit any climb. In fact the last time a truckie did talk to me on UHF it was because I tapped the brakes in unattended roadworks. Yes, they do an important job but there's no denying they believe might is right.

Yobarr , I am a very honest person ,believe it or not,

I swear to you my story is true ,on a stack of bibles ,on my wifes death bed ,That situation happened to me including what the policeman said .

I was travelling with a friend who was infront of me with a old Mazda motorhome , they witnessed what happened ,we could not make out the number plate as it was obscured with the metal work of the trailer ,intentional probably .

I would challenge anyone anyway to think they could possibly try and think to read the number plate as we were both very frightened at the time to even think of that,

but my mate in front said he could not read the plate .

I did nothing bad to instigate the situation except ask him to pull over so we could talk face to face and see if he would like to repeat his comments ,he refused of course like all Bullies ,so I did say " oh I can see that yellow streak you have mate all mouth no guts.

To that he lost the plot and said your dead c//t.
to be honest the guy was raving like a lunatic ,there was another truckie somewhere in front of us trying to calm him down , to no avail .

Now i'm not saying all truckies are like him ,but my god a lot of them do think they own the road.

You can go to any highway and witness trucks up car ,and caravans backsides everyday of the year .

a lot of truck drivers are Bullies on wheels in my opinion, Ive been travelling around OZ for the last 18 yrs and have lost count of the times trucks have been right up my bumba SIC

of course you let them by at nearest time ,and most will aknowledge with a thankyou flash of lights , but they travel way to close .

I have had many not so good encounters with trucks and a few with cars .

As I said the story is true .

Honestly I dont tell lies .
