Sliding door hook repair ideas

Soo, the hook/eyelet that holds the sliding door to out ensuite open when towing has come adrift. Reason being its screwed into crap Masonite. But the door has a fairly solid frame.

The obvious solution is the eyelet needs to be moved to the edge where the frame is and make a shorter hook to suite.

SWMBO does not want me to replace to door with a curtain.

I suspect this is a common problem so just wondering what all the options are?

I would glue a timber pad to where the hook hooks in and then put back the hook holder. Have done that many a time.

Eliminate the hook altogether and put a magnetic catch on.

Our Evernew has a padbolt - to hole in floor that holds door open. Ensure when door is closed, it cannot drop in and keep door locked (closed), trapping someone in loo.

One of these will do the trick.

Spring loaded so it cant lock you out of the bathroom.

Only lock it in the open door position which is a silly thing to say because if it is fitted on the inside of the door then you cannot lock it closed because you wont be able to get out of the bathroom. With it on the inside anyone needing privacy of a locked door can activate it when the door is closed.

It has one of them as well as the hook. As it only works on friction I've never used it for when towing. Will it do the job?

Old bloke,
Mine has a thin plate with a hole in it similar to a washer.
The pin of the plunger just pushes into it and locates.
My previous van had the similar plunger with a hole in the floor.
Both never moved in my travels..

we have used the spring loaded unit show for 7 years and lock it down with the door open. never had a problem with it. when fitting make sure when it is locked down it is applying reasonable pressure to the floor.

You can use a toggle bolt to attach the eye to the door.

I'm surprised it does the job.

We have one so i will try it next time we move in a few days.

Now I'm puzzled what the hook was for?

The hook was probably an afterthought. Both my vans did not have a hook.

The hook and eyelet failed because when you are travelling it is *banging like a dunny door in a travelling van* biggrin  biggrin

The spring lockdown will help to stop the door from rattling backward and forward.

We have both the hook and eyelet, and the spring loaded stopper..........both are used when travelling.

When using the shower or loo the door is closed, with the stopper acting as door latch at floor level, as the hook will not engage the eyelet, as it is for the open position only.

I hope that makes sense !! sometimes you read things back and they are as clear as mud...........cheers Bob
