Question for Electronic Experts.

I want to put a diode on a main wire from the battery. I do know a diode allows current to flow one way but not the other. The maximum amps that this wire would be possibly drawing would be 12V 10 amps. Can someone tell me the type of diode I should get and its number/name? Thanks

Next question. Why? There maybe an alternative to what you are planning.

Adding a diode will reduce the voltage on the other side of the device by about 0.7 Volts.
