has anyone used a reasonably good quality blowup mattress on single beds in there caravan .......we have foam at the moment but when laying can feel the wood under on the hip.....so we have to sleep on the back and be carefull not to turn over on sides .....have looked at innerspring ones but find the price a bit much.......or has anyone a better idea ......

What do you use at home? Why use different? A decent mattress is essential for comfort and health.
Cheers,
Peter

We have Thermarest mattresses. A few years ago replaced my 25 year old mattress with a new Thermarest 75mm luxury map, standard size to fit in the car, 2 sideby side.

Oztrail make a good self inflating mattress if are not using full time but if you are using fulltime or regularly like Peter said spend the bucks and get a decent mattress

Just thought I would ask a question while teaspoon sleeps biggrin I have an innerspring mattress in my camper and when I tried it out before I use it, it seemed bloody awful so when I went away I put my self inflating mattress on top and it was great, but it doesn't pack down so well if I leave it on the bed, I had been thinking of getting a new foam mattress at some stage but wondered about the longevity of it, what should I be looking at in a foam mattress?

While camping I can use the self inflating mattress for 3-5 days before having issues, however if I use an air mattress half inflated I never have an issue but it needs to have something between me and it (blanket or sleeping bag).

What thickness self inflating mattress do you have?

I went from my 25mm 25 year old Thermarest mattress, then added another 25mm mattress a decade ago which was a light weight hiking mattress, to double up the thickness.

Then got a 75mm Thermarest Luxury Map. It is more than twice as good as the combined 50mm.

I would have gone thicker but it is all I could fit in the car or hiking tent.

They make one which is 11cm thick if you have the area to fit. Don't over inflate these air mattresses as they will be less comfortable.
