Awning

Hello Grey Nomads,

In preparation for retirement, I have purchased a new Toyota Hiace which my husband and I are progressively fitting out, to suit our needs.

I would like to purchase an awning and have been looking at the Fiamma brand. Does anyone have good or bad feedback on awnings, brand names, etc.

I don't really want to pay out the big bucks, if it isn't worth it

Thanks

Welcome to G/N's.

I have always had Dometic awnings - they were reasonably priced and OK quality - since 2016 - we've replaced awnings and componentry 5 times - once originally because I damaged it thence forth 4 times due to delaminations (twice) and faulty metalwork/roller (twice).

Haven\t had a chance to test latest iteration (due to COVID19), but I'm not optimistic. I just wonder what goes when the warranty runs out.

The Fiamma units we've seen appear to be OK and the owners say no complaints - that is where I would go in the future.

Welcome to the gang Giz, enjoy here and out in the playground.

I too have a Dometic fitted to my aluminium teepee and love it. That with shade screens around gives me privacy and another living area as I love being outside under it in all weather.

I have had my aluminium teepee now for 7 years this month and only just replaced the vinyl lid about 5 months ago and that was really only due to my fault of washing with wrong stuff. I only replaced the roller and vinyl lid. I have a feeling the new one won't last as long though as quality, although still Dometic, is not as good. Time will tell.

Next time I will check out 'Van Tastic Caravan & RV Awning Screens'. Just Google them for contact details as I don't actually have them. Their product sounds and looks great quality.

Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

A warm welcome from me also, Giz

Careful with a Fiamma awning, the bookwork says that it is only a sunshade, and not to be used in wind or rain

I had one on my motorhome, but the wind destroyed it

I now have a Carefree awning

The Avatar of my motorhome, is showing the old Fiamma awning

It appears that I'm way off track here but I thought that you were looking for an awning for your car. We have an XTM awning on our car and we never used it during our trip in the 2 1/2 months in hot qld. We either sat under a tree, a picnic table covering or the caravan's awning.

Thank you for that feedback, good to know. We always back into a gazebo, so may not even use the awning all that often.

COVID certainly has curtailed on the road adventures. :)
