Melburnian friends caravanning in QLD travelled home last week after receiving a permit from the Victoria Government. The permit contained a provision that they take no longer than 24 hours to transit NSW. They arrived Bourke NSW around 6:00pm and continued at 7:00am the next morning, making Echuca with ten minutes to spare. Whichever Government official (I am guessing who) made that rule may have road deaths to deal with as well as lockdowns.
If I was a Victorian, to keep Covid out of the state, I would not like anyone travelling thru NSW to have entry. Fill up with Fuel at Bourke, pick up the virus and Vic is in another lockdown.
1 person from NSW caused SA's last 7 day lockdown.
As a New South Welshman sorry but we don't want you or anyone else travelling through this state regardless of where you come from, you can just as easily transport the virus from region to region as someone who lives here. Over the last 18 months when people made a decision to leave their states for non essential travel (ourseves included) they knew that they were taking the risk of borders being slammed shut and with little notice. If they decided to take that risk then I guess its now up to them to work out what they need to do to get back safely regardless of the inconvenience..
Chairman Dan likes to point his finger at NSW for the current outbreak but he has a short memory when it comes to the outbreaks started in NSW as a result of people leaving Victoria during restrictions. In case you havent noticed Peter the people of Victoria have the virus circulating and are already in lockdown hopefully they will be able to contain the variant better than what we did here.. I wonder if those living in the currently non affected states will be as smug if this Delta strain happens to get in there - it will be no use looking for someone to blame all the energy will need to be put in to how to control it. It seems that the previously successful tools used in to control it in the past are not going to be good enough this time...and I,m pretty sure that some imaginary line on a map wont be that much of a deterent either.
Obviously they have their good reasons.
No different to us getting a permit from SA to cross Victoria to get to south Australia a few months ago, or a few weeks later, getting a permit from Tasmania to cross Victoria to reach the ferry.
Both times there were transit conditions that were reasonable
Don't try to go through NSW. Hot spots are popping up everywhere in the west and the east. We managed to travel from Bundaberg to Canberra via Inverell a week or two ago and managed to avoid all the hot spot areas as we didn't stop in SE Queensland or in Dubbo shire, but since then all shires in NSW have become hot spots.
We are in NQ and a few weeks ago we had friends that had to go back to Vic for personal reasons and they applied on line for a permit to travel back.
They too, were subject to the 24 hour rule through NSW.
I wonder what half wit came up with that.
Anyway I don't thinks those permits are available now, but correct me if I am wrong.
I was having a chat yesterday with various people from south and the majority of them said that they have extended their stay in QLD rather than trying to get home.
I then spoke to my park manager and he confirmed this and added that the extensions are now causing chaos with future bookings.
We all know that not moving around prevents the virus spreading but I wonder where this will all end up as NSW seems to be in big trouble with the virus.
With the 24hr transit time limit to transit through NSW it's a mistake to think that you should start early in the day. We did it safely by leaving Goondiwindi about lunchtime, drove 6hrs, had a good night's sleep in the caravan in a pull off bay, then started again early next morning and had a relaxed drive through the border at Tocumwal before lunchtime. The only possible contact with anyone was at 2 diesel stops where we were very careful to wear the PPE (including gloves) and kept away from anyone.
At the time nobody was found to have the virus west of Bathurst and Orange. That's changed of course and also it seems now (by the fines issued) many have given up being careful.

Sorry, not all shires in NSW are hotspots. Please check the NSW map and find out what shires ( councils ) are in the hotspot areas

If you have been in an extreme risk zone at any time since the zone started over the last 14 days, you cannot enter Victoria unless you havean exemption, exception, or a valid permit (specified worker permit, cross border extreme risk zone permit, or transit permit). Only cross border community residents may be eligible to apply for an extreme risk zone permit.
This applies to Victorian residents and non-Victorian residents.
Even if you have an exemption, exception or another valid permit, conditions will still apply if you have been in an extreme risk zone. In most cases, these conditions will include quarantine for 14 days.
If you attempt to enter Victoria from an extreme risk zone without an exemption, exception or a valid permit, you face a fine of up toAUD$5452andcould besent back orplaced inHotelQuarantine.
Exemptions are only provided in rare circumstances.
If you do not have a dashcam. It might be worth getting one with enough memory storage to record your entire trip through NSW to cover your backside just in case your transit ends up in court for one reason or another.
& Jerry cans so you can refuel in an isolated location so you can't be accused of any possible trumped-up covid transmission charges.
