Can somebody confirm that I do not need a gas certificate inspection on a 10 year old caravan that is registered in NSW and will be sold to another NSW resident? There has been no modifications or additions to any part of the gas system and I use the replacement gas cylinders so they should be age compliant.

 

I understand interstate requirements are different but I cannot confirm the NSW requirements on the NSW Service website.

 

I have been trying to talk to someone at Service NSW and guess what? Yup, Im still waiting, and waiting and waiting.

 

But I do feel warm and fuzzy knowing that my call is important to them!

NSW gas and Roadworthy certificates aren't recognised in QLD they have their own requirements..also In NSW a vehicle only needs to be inspected annually (Pink Slip) and once issued a Gas compliance plate will last the life of the installation unless it is altered and then a new plate needs to be issued and attached to the vehicle.

Although BCA says new certification every time sold www.bcaaust.com.au/guide-to-caravan-gas-certification - I believe this is the case in Victoria.

SA & WA it would be prudent to check with local Authority.

This where it gets confusing! BCA do not specify for NSW separately. I've sold two vans in QLD and have supplied gas certificates each time. I now live in NSW and will be selling to a NSW resident.

Quote from BCA:

'A Gas Compliance Certificate does not expire as such for the purposes of compliance: as stated above though, you must have a new one issued every time you add or change any appliances, and each and every time you have any work done on either the appliances or any other part of your LP gas system. 

However, if you wish to sell your caravan, the certificate you present must have been issued within three months of the sale being completed. So in this sense, a gas certificate lasts for three months.'
