I used to tow a 2.3T Jayco with a 2010 Nissan Pathfinder. It handled it with ease & economy was quite good.

Most importantly, only tow in sports mode of the auto!

Have not had a Pajero but heard they can be a bit thirsty on fuel.

Deleted. Just checked my records,and Navara has improved dramatically of late compared with the figures I have.Probably boils down to do you prefer a car or ute,but the Navara seems to be a much better vehicle than it once was! Cheers

 I towed a 2.5t van with a Mitsubishi challenger (precursor to the sport)  a few times. It had coil springs in the rear. Although rated same as the Triton I would never recommended. It porpoises very badly. Assuming the sport has coil a springs I would only tow a much lighter van.

The Triton tows it much, much better. (Leaf springs)

Have been towing a 18ft Jayco Freedom approx 1800 kgs, with a 2015 Mitsubishi Challenger fitted with a Milford WDH. Towed very well, hardly knew the van was on the back, towed beautifully, never any sign of sway or porpoising The newer Pajero Sports is not much different than the 2015 Challenger, maybe better ?, so it should pull a small van with ease in my opinion.

{ No skin off my nose , but just a heads up. I just traded my Mitsi Challenger in on a new Isuzu MU-X. It's being resold by Wayne Phillis Ford/Isuzu at Christies Beach, S.A. reg S047 BIK. If anybody is in the market for a safe buy used tug, this Challenger this would be a V good buy, in excellent condition, 136,000 klms, log book dealership servicing, never missed a beat, pampered vehicle, mild off road driving, new tyres, ARB roo bar, etc etc .... just being helpful if anybody is in the market for one}

Marydoll use the search function and enter Pajero Sport you will find some feedback from people like myself who have had one..

IMHO

Plusses  - nice car to drive especially around town, the 2.4ltr diesel coupled with the 8 speed transmission got the best out of it, lots of standard features that you dont get in other brands unless you pay extra for them. Towing in manual mode using your paddle shifts was pretty handy.

Minuses - I had to fit air bags to the rear coils to stop it porpoising, sometimes heavy on fuel but I normally averaged somewhere between 16lts and 18ltrs/100kms towing on good roads, the smaller motor had to work pretty hard especially from standing starts and on longer climbs, ..\

I replaced the Sport with a Jeep GC as I reckon the Sport pulling 2.7T was probably asking it to punch a little bit above its weight - more suited to pulling loads up to 2.5T anything around 2T should be a breeze for it.

The Sport replaced the Challenger and other than being the same size they dont really have that much in common.

I would not recommend a Pathfinder, of the r51 variety. I had a 2008-9 model, it was okay for 120,000km, then it became a lemon. If you have $3000 ready for the new cam chain, and then again at 80,000km, and are prepare to replace the bottom chain, at $5000, then by all means buy a Pathfinder of that era. I don't recommend the r51 series Pathfinder at all. Not to mention, all the high tech stuff that gradually breaks down over time, including limp mode happening ever couple of thousand kilometers, even if you replaced everything that can make limp mode happen.
