Toilet Paper

I have been using the Thetford toilet paper in my cassette toilet, am I wasting my money, does standard toilet paper really cause problems in these toilets, is there a brand available in supermarkets that will also do the job ?

Ian

Use whatever you use at home. It will be fine.

Ian, most toilet paper "disintegrates" when wet, and the additives in toilet hasten the process - Don't use tissues or baby wipes though as they can block the septic systems. There is no need to use any Thetford paper or even chemicals, "No Brand" Napisan will suffice - Thetford and other specialist toilet additives are an expensive way go.

Thanks Peter and Possum, yes I thought that was the case, so I don't need to shake different samples in a jar of water to see if they break down fast enough (youtube) Yes I do use percarbonate Thanks Ian

All toilet paper is bio degradable which means it breaks down in water, just use whatever you use at home. We normally use 3 ply Quilton, have found if I use 2 ply we simply end up using more of it.

Ian to Ian,

As stated already, standard stuff has worked for us since 2005. Whatever works for Septic will be OK.

We use 2ply toilet paper purchased at supermarket , it breaks up faster than 3ply , but whether you use 2 or 3 ply

they all require a a good flush when emptying cassette.

i am going to try using Napisan in toilet rather  than expensive fluids  you buy at BCF etc. I have just read some

articles here in Greynomads that seemed to indicate Napisan was quite ok.

Nappysan works well; I mix about 1/3 cup of Nappysan to 1L of water and add that to an empty tank, I then add about 1 teaspoon of Nappysan each time the toilet is used.

Don't buy the brand Nappysan but rather look for the cheapest "stain remover" in the laundry section with 30% or more sodium percarbonate - that's all Nappysan is. Safeway sell a product called "Clean Boost" in a 1kg purple container for $3.50 which is 33% SP.

In regard to loo paper, I use Quilton but put it into a plastic bag and burn that every few days - when my son visits he insists on his own plastic bag... fair enough I 'spose :)
