planning stage

Jackie and I are planning to buy a van and car later this year to travel around a bit. We are looking at all kinds of vans and Cars..Jeep, Landcruiser, MU-X and others. Maybe there is a complete rig available out there that fits our budget.

I have towed boats before and have driven many trucks and buses but not towed a van. As we are looking at 21- 22ft van I am interested to learn if there is a course that teaches a few tricks. I know very little about breaking systems on vans, electronic or other.

I know a little about controlling the sway in high winds but not enough. I know very little about all the bits that connect van to car.

Any thoughts or direction would be an enormous help.

Thanks...... Jackian

Personally, I would NEVER want to tow a caravan because of the restrictions they place on where we can go and the crowds of people that go to the places that they go to.
Stability of caravans is not well understood, despite the number that roll over every year.
Here are a few tips... rvbooks.com.au/making-travel-trailers-more-stable/
Cheers,
Peter

Welcome to GN's Jackian, I'm pretty sure that most of your questions would be answered by downloading the free technical information, buying hints and checklists at www.caravancouncil.com.au/

A warm welcome from me also, Jackian

Not knowing whereabouts in Australia you are, there are usually organisations suppling caravan towing courses, in the populated areas

I am led to believe that RAC in Western Australia, organise a course in Perth, from time to time

As not many people come to this part of the forum, it may pay to copy and paste your question, in the general part of the forum, if you get no answer here

Hope that when you start out, there are many happy road trips, ahead of you

Hello everyone :)
My name is Deb & my husband is Dallas. We have an 8 and a half year old Purebred Kelpie whom still thinks he is 2. I have been on this forum for a while just gathering information whilst sorting and emptying out our home so we can live out in nature permanently, travelling & exploring this beautiful country we live in. It has always been a dream of mine and getting so excited that our dream is coming to life within the next couple of months. We have decided on buying a 5th Wheeler and just looking for the right one to suit us. I had bought both the Grey Nomad books that have jammed pack information to prepare us for anything and everything. Hope you all out there are having a wonderful time and will no doubt be catching up with a lot of you all in the near future. So a big hello to everyone.
Kind Regards
Deb & Dallas & Fudgee our Kelpie :)
