Could only wish blaze, off Temma this lot. The net was a heavy b, about 600mm square, the rod was at least 20mm dia and a heavy tassie oak handle. Even the mesh was big, maybe 5mm dia
They were still good here in South Australia 1975 Northern region. I was a deckie on this boat fishing Wedge is, Sth Neptunes & the West coast. We were allowed 55pots. If we didnt pull 200Lb/90Kg each day we moved the pots. This was a 6 month season & we never missed a day fishing. Winter we fished for shark. The boat was 42Ft with twin 250Hp Volvos. Cruised at 20Kn with 1400Lb of crayfish in the well after 7 days of fishing.
Those old boats were a lot more economical to run, & there was plenty still going in the 70s. The shift to planing hull boats was ok while diesel was relativly cheep. But when the price took a huge hike some of the planing hull boats reduced there speed back to the old displacemen hull boats.
25Ft Cray boat working along side us early 70s. Tycoon. Quite small boat considering there was the owner & decky camping on it for up to a week. The boat i was on doing the same trips was 42 ft. At the time was working around Williams Is south of Pt Lincoln. And this was a rare calm day for the southern ocean.

Just reading Tasmanian Ship wrecks Vol 11, 1900-2000 and the " Jennifer Hardy " was sunk in 1994, both crew rescued, East Coast of Tassie. The deck hand was drowned a few months later after being in another shipwrecked fishing boat on West Coast of Tassie.
Earlier on my post featured Lady Phyllis which was broken up in Devonport in 2013.
